I think it only shows one channel layout doesn't it? And I guess that is the main track? If so, you could argue the precedent is already set so showing all icons in one case but only one for another is inconsistent. To my mind, either allowing you to select the tracks (and showing each one) or showing just what will need played makes sense.

I think it shows first audio index. If MC is scraping default track info from file it could show that or the track that user has previously selected.
There is a limited amount of space to show the icons in the small view and as today they are mostly a graphical spice not something functional.

The next build will have v2.2 of the templates file with the following changes:

1) In small view, move Critic Rating to top and put it on a second line with the release date.  Move info icons to the bottom.
2) Add variables to control the actor thumbnails.  See the end of General Variables section where you can set the number, width, and caption text height.
3) Only show the first audio codec icon (but variable was added to General Variables to control how many are displayed).
4) Show 4K resolution icon in addition to Dolby Vision icon.

Will we have the ability to center the text for the thumbnails?

I think this will be a great addition to Theater View. I am looking forward to using them. Right now I'm in the process of copying my Library and the files from my laptop server to my HTPC computer.
I am subscribed to this thread and looking forward to further updates.

We unified the aspect ratio reporting to the 2.39 format when we overhauled the analysis. If files still show the old format, maybe you need to re-analyze them.
Unless its a DVD IFO, those are not supported in analysis right now.
Not sure I follow, but the file in question has been reanalyzed and still shows the same info in MC.

Why not show the MC calculated aspect ration instead of an icon?

I check these out when there's changes, and, while it gets better each time, it's still not quite ready to replace my tried and trusted arrangement, which is nothing fancy (example attached), just info we like to see.

I often combine descriptions from TMDB and Wikipedia and noticed that in the new active templates, there is no way to expand and read the full description, it's always truncated. Is that expected behaviour?

Is this default template going to replace custom templates each time there's a version upgrade? It's a little annoying to have to restore custom templates. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work that's gone into doing this, I just don't want to have reenable my custom template each time there's a build update.

JRiver's new template still has my max length of 441 chars for description. I needed that because I need to control placement of the sub items which comes after the description so I could fit everything I want nicely on one "page". JRiver's new template doesn't seem to care at least at this point so maybe it could be changed to show the whole description as truncation is not needed.

It would be a VERY nice new feature if sub item heights could be customized in the "file info panel" e.g. one sub item height could be set to 50px (or whatever unit) and it would be that size regularly and you could expand it to show whole content with right arrow like already today. Currently height is hard coded under the hood. You can only use option "Show more values at a time in the file info panel" so it should be possible to make height value something template maker could modify. Configurable height would help placing items a LOT within the current engine

Changing the version number on the file, from what I understand, is used to restore the previous templates, both the default one and the personal ones.

In my opinion, and I also believe MGD_King, with each new version the default templates should be updated, leaving the personal ones unchanged: is it possible?

Surely, this must be a temporary solution before a stable version is launched with a long term solution of preserving a template of choosing?

Nothing was done with these.  Can you please share what it shows exactly in the Tag Window for Aspect Ratio of a file that is not working?  If you mean critic ratings from other sources, this is not currently available without external tools so will not be added at this time.

I think the reason why I don't see the aspect ratio icons depends on the various templates that I have created over time following lepa's post, and the various fields created in some way influence the new template.

I discovered, for example, that in order to display these icons, I have to modify the code by inserting (pretty) as indicated in the lepa template.
Code: [Select]
If([Aspect Ratio (pretty),0],[v_LDELIM_ICON]<img src="tooltip:Video//AspectRatio//[Aspect Ratio (pretty)]" RemoveRight([v_LHEIGHT_TECH_ICON],3)Math(Number([v_LHEIGHT_TECH_ICON]) + 2)" valign="middle">,)/
As for the critic ratings, I understood that they were already available and, not seeing them, I thought it was my problem

Make sure the Aspect Ratio tag is filled in properly for your movies and it should work without any modification.

I understood what the problem was!

In the tag the aspect ratio is indicated with a comma (1 comma 85), while in the tooltip folder the individual files are named with a period (1 point 85).

I renamed the files, and now it works

As someone that also lives in a comma for decimal country,  we should handle this. :)

That's why I asked exactly what was displayed in the Tag Window.  I guess we can support this "fringe" case :).

But how is the Aspect Ratio field populated? From your answers I seem to understand that being in Italy, certain decimal numbers are expressed with a comma rather than a point

Looks like the cast is not displayed if the director in spotlight has no image. E.g.  Omen III, tt008237; Top Gear Winter Olympics, tt0762542.

I assume it uses whatever is appropriate for the locale when the "Analyze" is performed.  This will be fixed in the next build so you can re-name the image files back to use the periods.

Thank you.

To have a top job, it would be more correct to use the "Aspect Ratio Calculated" field instead of "Aspect Ratio".

This however involves the use of SoT

I changed the version number, but despite this, with today's update I lost my custom templates again.

My situation of the Library>backup folder is the one attached: is there an error?

Among other things, the xml file reports the version number as 2.2: shouldn't it be 2.3?

It is upgrading to 2.3 so it backs up 2.2 which is correct.  You can delete the extra Backup directory which is erroneous from before.  That is, get rid of Library\Backup\Backup but keep Library\Backup.

I changed the version number, but despite this, with today's update I lost my custom templates again.

I updated my template version number to 21.12 after saving (exporting) the XML file. I then reimported that file and after the last update my template did not get overwritten. I have begun to do this process every time I edit my template to insure it stays after the next update.

Is it possible to show cover art to the left of multiple rows of information so that the 'header' and 'description' are wrapped to the right of the cover art?

Also after upgrading to MC32, I noticed the little checkmark for watched movies (next to the name in a list of movies) reappeared. Is there a way to remove it?

Thanks!

Can you explain this layout more?

Yes.  Go to Tools > Options > Theater View > Customize file info panel...  Select Movie in the Templates dropdown.  Click Manage > Edit template...  In the Caption, Regular text box remove everything after [Name].

Thank you for the info about editing the template. I forgot about that since you can 'edit' it right from the main pop-up box.

In regard to the cover art, I've attached a modified version of the new theater view movie template. I like to have all the text at the bottom of the screen so that I can view the background images better. But I'd still like there to be a small cover in the bottom left corner with the header and description information to the right of it. The cover art would be no larger than the top of the header to the bottom of the screen. Is that possible?

Also it would be nice if it was easier to dynamically display the content at the bottom of the screen rather than having to add a bunch of blank elements at the top that you have to scroll through. If you could dynamically adjust the header and description to stick the last line of text to the bottom of the screen, hat would be really nice. So that if you say had 4 vs 5 lines of text, they would both be justified to the bottom. Then you could have a setting for additional 'off screen' fields like the cast allowing you to further scroll down when you want to view that off screen content, but not clutter up the screen normally..

It is not possible to do dynamic sizing and justification with the current system.  I do not think this will be added anytime soon.

A similar template for TV Shows has been added in build 32.0.26.  This bumped the templates file version to 2.4.

Understood. What about the cover art? Regardless of a dynamic sizing, is it possible to place that in the lower left corner of the screen where the header and description is in my template?

How do you reference cover art for a selected file in the template code?

Thanks!

It's definitely due to age, but despite having followed the instructions at the beginning of the thread to the letter, even with the recent update to build 26, my templates have been overwritten: is anyone kind enough to explain to me step by step what I should do?
For example, in which file should I change the version number?
Thank you

As this goes to customising things I think it is better suited in that thread and keep this one clean for stock dev. So see you here

I exported my XML template to a unique file name. I then opened that XML file with notepad and changed the <Templates Version="2.2"> field to <Templates Version="21.12"> and saved the file. I then import that XML file back in and the next time MC updates, it retains my custom template.

The added benefit of exporting my template with a unique name is that in the event that I modify it, it gets reset back to <Templates Version="2.2"> which would then be overwritten on the next update. I can then just reimport my saved template and do the process above all over.

I wish that JRiver would add a field like <Template Modified="True/False"> whenever it is modified and look for that field and if it equals "True" then don't overwrite it.

It's definitely due to age, but despite having followed the instructions at the beginning of the thread to the letter, even with the recent update to build 26, my templates have been overwritten: is anyone kind enough to explain to me step by step what I should do?
For example, in which file should I change the version number?

You need to edit the version number in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 32\Library\theater view file info templates.xml" (Windows) for a local library.  Note that if it is a library server client you have to modify the templates file on the server, because the client one gets overwritten each time you connect.

I created a backup of the current templates, including my versions, and saved it in the library/bachup folder and renamed the version from 2.4 to 102.4

The next update shouldn't overwrite my templates, right?

You have to do the one in the library folder, not library/backup.

I did a test on the laptop, where I have a version of JRiver for testing, and unfortunately it doesn't work or rather it doesn't work as I would like and it's probably my fault for not explaining well what I would like.

In addition to the default templates (Movie, TV Show etc.) I have a couple of templates created over time thanks to lepa and called Movie by lello and TV Show by lello.

I would like that with each new update of the default templates, such as the new TV Show template introduced with v26, my templates would remain and the default ones would update.

By changing the version number of the xml file saved in the library folder, this does not happen but simply all the previous templates, both mine and the default ones, remain.

If it can't be done, as I believe, it's obviously not a problem.

Which audio track(s) get examined for "Analyze Video"?

I ask since most of my .mkv file (originally created for Plex and Roku) have two tracks -- the first one is just stereo and the second one is the multi-track audio.  The details for all files seems to have concluded that all the movies are just in stereo.

Thanks!
