Wiki or Google?   Replay Gain is volume leveling. Files must be analysed first.

Wiki or Google?   Replay Gain is volume leveling. Files must be analysed first.
And if you look on your MC server tags for your audio files you will be able to see if they have replay gain values filled in.
If they do and some files are louder than others because of the way they were recorded or mastered, turning on this feature will even out the volume on the playback device, in this case the iDevice that you are using JRemote on.

For other zones, like the player zone on the MC server, the equivalent option is in MC's DSP studio.

I am not sure if it is in JRemote or not, but is there a way to turn on/off subtitles for video when playing locally to the device?  I can't seem to find it.  If on the server (or a PC client) I watched the video with subtitles enabled, then on JRemote, watching the same video, subtitles are working.

Can't seem to find in JRemote where the toggle is for local playback.

Thanks!

It may depend on if they are embedded or separate files. At any rate go on the MC server and play the video to see if they are enabled in the library for that item. If so, turn them off there and try in JRemote again.

it's more of a question as to whether there is an option in JRemote to toggle subtitles when playing back on the device.

I can toggle on/off from the server, and JRemote will follow that configuration.  What I am asking is whether or not there is a toggle in JRemote itself

No.
I'm not sure if could be added either since the device zone isn't a real zone.

I found it: with video files that contain subtitles (e.g. as a separate track), there is an option to toggle subtitles during playback in JRemote.

For much of my media, it's all particles pointing to .mpls files.  In those cases, the subtitle toggle is not available.  Saves a TON if disk  space since I do full backups and then use particles to point to eg individual episodes.

--

Another question - does JRemote support mp4/HVEC encoding?  I have several files of that container and codec, and while audio plays fine, the video just shows the Apple Quicktime logo centered and on a black screen.

this is for local playback as well.

Thanks

Can you guys tell me why there are no major upgrades done to JRemote (as for MC) and just bugs fixed over years (perceived)?

I’m sure, my personal wishes (5 star and list choice custom fields, change option for DLNA controller options) are some of what folks would have…

Yes, sorry, I didn’t want to be negative about the work put into the fixes!
The question was more, why are no major feature extensions even planned?

As everyone nowadays in my understanding uses a tablet to control his streaming (instead of sitting at a PC to do so), I’m wondering how much MC is extended and how little JRemote.

You can define this in your JRemote views definition when building custom views.

I see no such capability… least wise, with JRemote (iOS). That is, I do see in setup the capability for it to show album art by default, but not for sorting

Is there a possibility to restart the media server without restarting the computer?  That is, your implementation of restarting the computer does not restart the server, even if it’s configured to automatically do so.

I am able to simply restart the computer locally that will automatically start the server, but JRemote’s remote restart is somehow different in that nothing restarts automatically without first logging in.

I don't think you can make that assumption.

Regarding using tablets for JRemote, my iPad mini doesn’t allow for sorting capabilities either.

At least my iOS devices will show the date along with the album’s track list, but JRemote2 (Android) does not. In fact, the Android version provides no way to determine the date unless you show the metadata while actually playing…

Edit… I just like to play albums that I’ve chosen relative to the artist’s evolution…

CarPlay is now working without crashes good work! However there is still an issue where if you start JRemote with CarPlay… it will start playback just fine however CarPlay controls don't work unless I skip a track on the iPhone then it will work just fine in CarPlay…

And if I may squeeze in a request any chance to get live tv playback with JRemote ?

JRemote will show any view you create in MC (under Media Network, gizmo, etc views).
I think it should show any sorting you create there unless I'm not understanding what you are trying to do.

Please help me out here. I can see nothing regarding sort preferences for JRemote in the settings section for the server. All I see is for web access (e.g., Panel).

Can you point me at a section in your Wiki? Thanks!

You can also simply type jremote into the search bar at the bottom of options to find it.

The only thing it does is show the Channnel Thumbnail and nothing plays...
Everything else plays fine (TV recordings, home Videos etc...)

Thx!

It should. I’m able to play flac files in IOS without transcoding and it is not supported by iTunes… Just try it?

FLAC is audio.  I'm trying to play video files encoded in HVEC.  I've tried in an mp4 and mkv container and it doesn't work.  Audio only.

I also tried video conversion settings in media network but that too doesn't work.

I assume it plays fine in MC? What version of MC on what platform?
What it in the compression filed for a file that doesn't play?
Number of channels and sample rate?

I think there is confusion here:

JRemote (latest) does not play HEVC encoded video in an mp4 container for me.  Audio can be heard but video does not work.  It shows the old "quicktime logo" when playing to the device (iPhone or iPad, latest iOS/iPadOS versions).

Mo 4 Media plays HEVC encoded video fine on iPhone and iPad.

I would suspect that whatever video engine you are using for JRemote on iOS/iPadOS is outdated/old and does not support HEVC.

As consequence, Airplay to an apple device, in this case AppleTV means no video there either, since it's decoded on the device and then streamed to the AppleTV.

hmm..  ok - the files in question play fine in any other player I have (VLC, Mo 4 Media, Media Center, InFuse).  Only JRemote is a problem.

I could trim a file down to a small size and send you a clip if that would help triage.

I wonder if the files that won't play have the MOOV atom at the end or are missing the MOOV atom?
There can be similar issues with mp4 audio. Since JRemote streams, the MOOV atom must be at the beginning for the video to play.

There are various ways to move the MOOV atom. FFMPEG is one.

I have the moov atom - moved to the beginning (w/ffmpeg).  No difference.

Here's what I think might be happening and also a correction on my initial post:

These mp4 videos show an error in ffmpeg (or warning), "codec frame size is not set".

If I convert to an mkv (just the container, no re-encodin using mkvtoolsnix) the video width and height are now set.  If I add that to Media Center library *and* restart MC, then the resulting MKV plays back in JRemote.  Is JRemote transcoding mkv files for playback in JRemote or does JRemote handle it natively?

In any case, the original MP4 plays in any other video player I've tried; only JRemote has an issue and I suspect it is due to the encoding application creating the original mp4 file and not JRemote itself which perhaps is being strict in some way other video players are not...

I have a short clip of a file I'll send to you (bob) as all of the above is barely educated guessing :)

Got it, thanks.
I did some testing moving the MOOV atom as well. It just doesn't play.
I don't think the iOS avplayer can play non-converted HEVC in the mp4 container format.
I'm making a change to test for hevc in the mp4 container. If it's found, JRemote will ask for the mp4 file to be converted on MC while streamed. Tested that and it seems to work fine.

@scobie - I did correct my original post - hvec within an MKV container does indeed play fine in JRemote, provided I restart MC after adding the file(s) to my library.  That's not a big deal.

@bob - are MKV files transcoded on MC when streamed to JRemote?

Yes, mkv's are transcoded. AVPlayer can't play them natively.
I just uploaded a beta (build 465) to do this for hevc in mp4 as well. Works great for me, even on my old iPad mini2.

A question on transcoding - Does the transcoding format come from what is selected in Media Center under Media Network/Client options/Video Conversion?

No, it's a particular streaming format that works on Apple and Android devices that Hendrik wrote.
The level is selected by the video transcoding option in JRemote.

Will we ever be able to shuffle Genres, Artist, Album, Recent etc. on iOS app as we can with Playlists and individual Albums? It would be great to be able to select a particular Genre and just hit shuffle! I've asked this several times in what I thought were the appropriate places on the forum but have still not gotten an answer.

Hi

As a new user (purchased) of JRiver Media Centre 32, love the software and also been using the JRemote, I do use my iphone as a end point now and then and have found i can do most things like playing songs from the NAS to the phone and some saved urls of streaming radio stations.

My question: is there a chance of playing the Streaming stations like Radio Paradise and JRiver to the phone?  Those presets i see in JRemote don't work when the phone is the endpoint. Apologies if this topic has been mentioned before and I've missed it.

Any possibility that shuffle can be applied to all music modes in the iOS app? I've asked this now several times in various parts of the forum. Currently, if I pull up multiple albums by the same artist in Artist, I can't shuffle in the iOS app. Same with Genre. Can't shuffle all Jazz, or Bluegrass Folk, etc. None of the high level Audio categories (Artist, Album, Recent, Genre...) allow shuffling the albums within. Forces us to create Playlists. Is my request even possible?

I don't mean to be a pest with this request but I've been trying to get a straight answer for months and haven't. I can't be the only one who would enjoy this added feature.

P.S. I'm shown as a recent member. I've supported JRiver since version 22.

If you touch and hold a library item (even top-level) you get a menu that includes "Shuffle and play".  Are you needing something else?  Thanks.

Hi,

Is there a way to disable star ratings in JRemote altogether?
I can't seem to find an option in the settings. Am I missing something? :)

I'm wondering about the ability to customize the display information for an album, which currently has

[Album Artist] (or if empty [Artist]?) comma [extra space--why?] [Album]
[number of tracks] [dot] [album length] [dot] [sampling rate and file type]  [dot] [year]

Honestly, these are great, though I don't think number of tracks is necessary, and have bit depth with sampling rate would be nice. Plus getting rid of that superfluous space before the album title would be nice, as would bolding artist and album title and italicizing album title. Are these customizable?

For the Now Playing view the details switch. Here we get:

Song Title

[in smaller font:]
Artist (NOT Album Artist)
Album Title
Hz and bit depth, sampling rate, file type

star ratings

Are these customizable?

Views presented to JRemote are customizable in MC.
The layout on JRemote is NOT customizable.
