This might help with testing and hopefully replicating the issue without having a ton of music files; a library backup from my MC32 server. Even though the music files aren't present (which likely aren't needed here since nothing is being played) everything else including the full list of artists and albums and even thumbnails should be present so the issue should still appear. After doing this backup I already changed the access key and the authentication so no issues. It's about 400MB due to the thumbnail backup. Good luck to anyone trying it. :)

Could you share a backup?

Yes, one is linked above. It's pretty big though (at nearly 400MB) because thumbnails are included. I included the thumbnails just in case their presence somehow is a trigger of the issue, though it probably doesn't matter. Hope it helps!

I don't see why MC's doing this:
[Album Artist (auto)]=[A/-ha] [Media Type]=[Audio]

When the browse ID is set to 1 (audio) it seems like the only criteria should be [Media Type]=[Audio]
It's up to the UPnP side requesting the data to do any sorting, etc of it.

Hmmm, interesting. If I recall correctly, this is the default artist view, correct?
Anything specific I should try?
Your Artist View looks pretty plain vanilla.  Matches the default on my system.

I downloaded and restored your backup library to my system (but not the settings).
Amazing to see how normal it behaves with 40,078 files, 3,158 Albums, and 661 Artists reported and 2.1 TB of files (most missing of course!).

On first try, Android BubbleUPnP took roughly 15 seconds to read the Artist view, maybe a little longer for the Album view.  Scrolling was responsive and fast, even during the initial library reads.  Thereafter switching between all the Android views and scrolling were totally snappy.

Maybe I got lucky on first try?

BTW, I suspected there might be something odd going on due to [album artist (auto)].  So I did a smartlist to look for albums with [album artist] = empty.  No hits.  But it looks like Bob may be onto something.

It does load fast sometimes, yes. Usually what I do is force BubbleUPnP closed then reopen it and try again until it starts to happen.

[album artist (auto)] is a calculated field I think. Seems like that could be an issue.

Definitely an expression based field according to MC library definition.  But there may very well be some additional calculations under the hood, given the logic in its feature set.  I never use it in my own custom views as I always assign [album artist] a value for every album myself, even with mult-artist albums, just to keep things simple.  So at least for now, [album artist] is always good enough for me.

Re problem at hand, I was thinking there could be some confusion in the default Artist view which uses [album artist (auto)] and Android BubbleUPnP which may be looking for [album artist] via DLNA inquiries.  Of course I don't profess to know any of the details in these protocols.

Also wondering if nowadays @AD ever sees the slowness problem for his first connection, or does he need to do rapid-fire restarts of Android BubbleUPnP to raise it?

Usually on the first start it'll load fast. Sometimes (like a few days ago with the logs I posted) it'll load fast multiple times in a row (e.g. 3 times with the MC log). Finally I had to fully exit BubbleUPnP (via its quit option or via the Android system force quit) and restart it to get it to happen. Could take a bit to get it to start triggering.

I think you guys are probably on the right track with the Album Artist (auto) contributing to it. I'll switch it to normal Album Artist and see what happens.

EDIT: Okay, that was quick. I switched it to Album Artist and a couple slow loads still happened... except it only lasted for about 5 or so seconds, it then proceeded to load the Artist list in chunks much faster than with Album Artist (auto). Was able to get that to happen twice this way, otherwise it's fast loading with near instant loads. Mr. Odd, if you can and are willing try switching the view from Album Artist (auto) to Album Artist and see if that makes it load faster for you too.

It does make the artist list load fast, but again it's because within BubbleUPnP Server it's creating a new entry for the library everytime I start up the Android app. I have to switch it back and reboot to fix it. Very strange.

That is very strange indeed, definitely not seeing that, just see the single library unless I use BubbleUPnP Server on the machine with the MC server and add a proxy.

I think they're on the right track now going down the Album Artist (Auto) rabbit hole. While it does load faster now, it isn't exactly instant loading how it *should* be potentially. Hopefully it's something that can be worked around or fixed in the future. :)

So... no new ideas? It feels like each party is pointing at the other to make a change.

Unfortunately I haven't found any workarounds. I suspect this issue is reproducible with other apps besides BubbleUPnP that support DLNA/UPnP and I believe the Neutron Music Player app supports this, I just keep forgetting to install it and try it there.

Hopefully this issue picks up some steam again, even though it's rare and unique to us hoarders. Anything like a fix, a workaround, a hack, etc. Anything to get it working as expected. :P

It's been a few months, and I just got 1 gig fiber internet and... this issue still remains. Yeah, I wasn't expected any change with the new internet since it's all local but I was slightly hopeful that *something* would change.

So I have to ask... any progress on either side?

EDIT: I used an alternative app to BubbleUPnP, USB Audio Player Pro with MC33 and it too has the same issues BubbleUPnP has with slow loading lists. Unless all UPnP/DLNA players are doing the same thing incorrectly I'm beginning to think it's a MC issue that'll have to be addressed on the MC side.
