YADB-problem
« on: February 02, 2003, 05:20:03 am »

Hell, when using MJ9 I am getting track info through
YADB. After one or two CD's I donot get this track info anymore. MJ is looking up info - connecting to YADB, but gets back stating "Action Failed - CD not found".
YADB is using freedb as far as I can see. When using another CD-Ripper that ripper finds data in freedb.
So, it is there alright. This is a regular occurrance, also whilst using 9.0.105.
I have disabled my firewall to see whether that might be the cause. But it isn't. With or without firewall, fact is that the first one or two CD's are found and I am getting back track-info.
Seems I am the only one with this problem?
Anybody out there who having any idea??

Wrong, YADB is using Data That Orginated from FreeDB and now any new data that Media Jukebox And Bedia Center Users Are Adding.

Maybe the inserted disk is not found because it just is not there untill you type it in?

Okay, take an example, Rachmaninov Preludes by Dmitri Alexeev is in freedb. It is one of the cd's just in front of me. MC9 doesn't find it.... I tried some other rippers, they all find the cd and come up with track-info...

When was that CD Submited To FreeDB?

If it has been within the last 6 months then it may not be In YADB

>> I tried some other rippers
they also don't Use YADB

It could also Be a Bug In YADB.

Please submit any cd Not found to YADB

I am seeing the same behavior.

For example, it wouldn't find the Black Crowes, Amorica.  I've looked it up manually in FreeDB and found it.  I'd find it hard to believe that it was added with in the last 6 months.

I've also tried the same CD's in Easy CD-DA extractor and it has found the info.  It uses FreeDB as well.

Sometimes restarting the app or the pc will resolve the problem.

wulffra, anothergene:

If I understand right, y'all are saying that CD lookup works for the first couple of CDs and then stops working. If you restart the program (or the computer) the CD that failed will be looked up successfully?

Yes mostly.  some times the look ups don't work at all.  but it's rare it works past about 3 cd's.  I will have to verify whether the restart works for sure, but I seem to recall it did.

Next time it happens, make a quick post here and I'll see if I can't get some useful info out of the logs.

Failed lookups in YADB have been my only serious complaint about my whole MediaCenter and iPod experience.  Hard to believe Dark Side of the Moon and Who's Next can't be found!  :-/

Jim, is there a way to manually see if an album is in YADB outside of having MC9 perform a lookup?  It would be reassuring to know if the "bug" is in MC9 or if the info is truly not in YADB.

As usual, thanks for all the support.

Am comparing over a dozen of CD-rippers/organizers and must confess that MC9 outranks them all. Frankly this YADB-thing is the only major problem I am encountering. A lot of cheaper or free stuff outranks MC9 on this one (only). The most peculiar thing is that after re-installing MJ8 (without reboot), the tracks of the CD are perfectly retrieved, where MJ9 failed to do so with the same CD..,

kartracer - what you are asking for is on my list of things to do, but it won't help. Both albums you mention are in the database. But, they may not be in the DB with the right hash value.

wulffra - when you switched back to MJ8, does it use CDDB or YADB?

there is another problem.
The first time you do not get the cd infos .
In the left tree under media-cd ,the cd is classed  as' unassigned'.
And many times MJ\MC stays at this level.
Not trying to get infos again ,and if you got infos with another player ,not using the infos in cdplayer.ini.
You have to delete this entries first

Using MC9

After 'switched back' from MC9 to MJ8 I tried out 8 CD's.
Using MJ8 YADB.
The first 5 went fine, got track info.
Nbr. 6 didn't. I used CDDB, it got track info.
Then I switched back to YADB no track info.
Rachmaninov, Etudes-Tableaux, Lugansky, freedb
nbr.c80efd11

# 7 YADB okay,
#8 no track info thru YADB, got track info thru CDDB.
Paganini, Kremer, freedb id:5a0b9307

Bad luck CDDB is not an option anymore...

How can I determine that? It is a 1997-CD so I guess it must have been submitted already a while ago.

If YADB uses freedb, then I guess so. Really hope it will be fixed soon! MJ8 can use CDDB as well as an option.
I can see the point that CDDB might be too expensive (don't know how free or cheap rippers manage to use that database though). But in MC9 there is even not an option to use freedb, i.e. YADB by default and freedb as an option.

I hate to do useless things, to be frank.

John, see my other reply. I used YADB. I really really hope you can fix the problem.

Jim, here a 'difficult one': Prokofiev, Piano Works Volume IX by Frederic Chiu.
CDDB gets all track data.
The CD isn't even in freedb....
CDDB may be costlier, but likely more complete.
Donot see a way to transfer CDDB data to YADB.
My vote in favour of CDDB...

Jim, I added Prokofiev just a while ago, accidently 3x
pls delete the first two, the one with genre: Piano and Year: 1999 is the correct one. sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Alcohol is good for track submission.  Just select the tracks you want to submit (hopefully they are well tagged) and then right click  to get "Tools/Submit track info to YADB".

Thanks for your help.
