MC25 to MC32
« on: May 17, 2024, 11:39:50 am »

I love the product and want to upgrade. My most recent version is MC25 and I admit I struggled with the instructions. i just hope I can ask some basic questions as I attempt the upgrade. 1) I believe I need to upgrade to a master licence to use on 2 laptops? Is this correct/ if so it may explain why I could never add MC25 to a new laptop.

if so no problem I'll upgrade to Master Licence. I just restored my licence but this is the newer laptop it was never working on. I'm already confused about if I need to install old version MC25 or new MC32.

To be clear I have MC25 working fine on one laptop, I would like to have MC32 on 2 laptops. I am not computer savvy so in basic form what steps do I need to take to complete this upgrade. I thank you for your patience.

No need to install an old version.  You just need the old license.

If both computers are the same OS family (Windows or Mac, for instance), a Master License isn't needed.

Please follow the instructions in the first post.

I did receive and appreciate a reply on my upgrade and now understand that I do not need to upgrade to a master license as both laptops are windows OS and that I do not need to install an old version. I did restore my licence today and am told to follow the instructions in the first post. Not sure where to find this I have enough trouble trying to post a question and then finding it again to see if there is an answer. Perhaps you mean upgrade instructions from Nov 13th?, if so I don't know if I need to restore, install?

I love JRiver but it is so much harder than it should be to work with. For non-computer nerds the instructions are hard to follow and that is if you can find them. There ends up being a lot of guesswork involved if you are not familiar with the terminology. It took me a long time with MC22 and 25 and I hoped I would not have to go thru it again. If more complete answers were given I'm sure it would greatly cut down the repeat queries.

I just purchased the MC32 upgrade and am really confused about "what my next step should be". Can someone please steer me in the right direction, I kind of need step by step instructions then I will not bother again. MC25 is currently working on my old HP laptop and I am trying to add MC32 on my new Acer then upgrade the MC25 to MC32 on the HP. Thanks

If you purchased the MC32 license, you probably still need to install MC32, then restore the new license.

Here are the instructions from the first post:

Hi, I have recently purchased MC32 and attempted to install it on my laptop. I see my songs listed but none of my playlists are there or not much album artwork is showing up. Have I possibly missed a step? I would appreciate any assistance or clarification here. I struggle with this stuff so need any instructions explained in very basic terms. I was very confused about "restore licence, registration codes, install keys" but once I finally tried it seemed shockingly easy. TIA

Really? That's the detailed help? Please be patient I am trying. I don't see any links about playlists or album artwork. I upgraded MC25 to MC32 on the one laptop ok and installed MC32 on the other but I have restarted and do not see my Cambridge Audio Network Player on the new install. Believe me, I wish I didn't have to ask any questions. Once working ok do you recommend deleting MC25 and the many backup files I have on my laptop. I have used 3 of my restores today.
current issues:

1. Cannot see my network player to connect and play music on new install MC32 "music is there"
2. Is there a trick for album artwork or do I have to do each album on its own
3. My playlists show up on the upgraded MC32 from MC25 but not on the new install.

The first post is here:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,137399.0.html

It tells you how to upgrade and how to install your license.

For questions about your equipment, please start a new thread.

Install MC32 on both machines, restore your MC32 license if necessary, and reboot.

Make sure Media Network is turned on.

I have read and followed that first post many times, it is now getting more confusing. My equipment is fine my player is seen on the old laptop and I can connect and play there just not on the new install. What is Media Network? as I am supposed to turn it on. I don't understand when I have to restore license but have done so 3x today and now getting more confused and frustrated. Maybe Media Network is the answer, I rebooted both machines. MC32 has been installed on both, license restored and have spent all day on this.

1. Cannot see my network player to connect and play music on new install MC32 "music is there"
2. Is there a trick for album artwork or do I have to do each album on its own "I am missing over 50%"
3. My playlists show up on the upgraded MC32 from MC25 but not on the new install.
4. How do I find and turn on "Media Network"

Yes, you need to turn on Media Network, but be sure you have installed MC32 first.

One problem at a time, please.  Use Google search first, adding JRiver to your question.

In the main Media Center window go to the Tools menu then select Options... When the Options window is open go to the Media Network section and check the Enable Media Network to share this library and enable DLNA option. This enables Media Network (you may need to close and reopen MC if you can't connect via Media Network). Just follow the instructions and get then use the access key it gives you.

If you're intending to access MC from outside of your local network, then you'd have to forward the port on your router otherwise inbound connections to port 52199 would be blocked by the router. If you're just using it in the same Wi-Fi network, it *should* work though for the MC server if it doesn't work you may need to go into Windows Firewall's settings and allow the connection.

Thank You again AD, much appreciated. I'm obviously struggling with this but making progress.

To be clear my upgrade to mC32 worked fine on my old laptop. On the new one I now see and connect to my network player so that is great the only thing bugging me is over 50% of album artwork did not transfer over nor did my playlists. This is something I could recreate myself over time but any suggestions to make it better now would again be much appreciated. If all ok throughout the day I will delete MC25 along with many library backups. I am relieved.

In MC25, look to see where your cover art is stored, then set the cover art location to be the same.

Tools > Options > File Locations > Cover Art.

Once you've done that, select an album or more, right click, then do Cover Art > Quick Find.  See the wiki for more details.
