No audio output [Solved]
« on: June 13, 2024, 11:02:31 pm »

Recently added a new DAC to my system. Im sending audio out through USB to the dac using my windows 11 PC using latest MC.
The DAC does not have a windows driver available.
Audio out from windows (for example YouTube videos on google chrome).
However no audio output in MC.
“Playback problem. Something went wrong with playback. Playback could not be started on the selected audio output”

Tried xCORE USB Audio 2.0 [WASAPI] and [Direct Sound] and Default Audio device [WASAPI] and [Direct Sound]

Same problem with all depth 16-24-32 and rates 44 to 192.

Is a special driver necessary to use Wasapi or Direct Sound in MC?
Are there any generic drivers that might work? Asio4all got audio output working but it sounded weird/glitchy no matter what buffer settings I used.
Thanks for any help!

Don't use ASIO4All.

Start with Direct Sound.  Try WASAPI after you have Direct Sound working.

The wiki has a topic on audio setup.

Make sure volume isn't muted.

Check the Windows Sound Mixer.  Test sounds from Windows Control Panel.

Thank you. Direct sound results in same result.
I carefully went through the wiki, but didn’t find a solution that has worked.
Sound output from test in windows control panel works fine.

Wasapi works fine in qobuz app. But in MC no playback is starting- it immediately reports the error “Playback problem. Something went wrong…”
Any further suggestions are much appreciated.

Can you test with a different device?

Did you check volume settings in MC and in Windows Mixer?  Try the Internal volume setting.  Click on the speaker icon to bring up settings.

Is it possible that some other player (Qobuz?) has the device open for exclusive access?

That would make sense, especially if you pause and not stop playback in any apps that have exclusive access. When paused the app will keep exclusive access and not allow other apps (like MC) to playback.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The solution was support for my DAC sent a windows driver. At first there was a suggestion that a driver shouldn’t be needed - but it is for MC (and Roon too). All working perfectly now.

Thanks for posting the solution.  What was the DAC?  It might benefit someone else to know.
