Client / Server Problems
« on: June 23, 2024, 09:48:55 am »

i am connected via my unifi dream machine to another dream machine as a site to site vpn. site a hosts my jriver server and i use a pc on site b to load the library.

i had 0 issues with jriver using this method...about 2 months ago an update came out (i made a post on here regarding it) and kept freezing jriver on pc on site b and the error was lost connection to server. so i implented a vpn connection to site a, which resolved this issue (while site to site is still active) after a few more updates more things are now not working properly. the latest update has now caused jriver to freeze up on pc at site b while connected to vpn....i took off vpn connection thinking maybe it would work and nope same thing.

this is not a problem with my vpn connection as i have cameras on site b streaming to a nvr on site a recording 24/7..... there has not been any drops from the cameras on site b.

this is all started with one update about 2 months ago and has gotten worse with further updates

can anyone advise any ideas?

Update Windows Defender.  You'll get new definitions.

Don't use any other antivirus.

Also update JRiver.

Perhaps your server PC on site A is going to sleep?

Sounds like you may have a large complex network.  Have other things on your network been changing during the same time period you installed MC updates?  Like adding more cameras, more 24/7 recording, increased frame rate, changing network hardware (switches, ...), Unifi updates, etc.?

Consider turning things off, simplify as much as possible, reboot network hardware and computers, test MC, then slowly add network complexity and see what happens.

Did computers "invisibly" change their network connection frequency, between 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz? Increased channel competition?

Just guessing, in case the lack of nvr dropouts does not tell the whole story.

Try temporarily disabling the Antivirus/Firewall on either PC.

Sounds like the issue is resolved then.

It's possible the root cause was the Code Signing Certificate change that MC had not long ago. When you add an exclusion to a given EXE to the firewall, Defender will associate it with the signing signature of that EXE. Subsequent MC updates are signed with the same cert so the rule still works. However I recall MC updating their signing certificate on a recent update, and that may have triggered Defender to disable/remove the rule as it detected the new EXE with a different cert. Feature, not bug.

so i let it run today it played roughly 135ish songs without a message...that is much better!

but of course the message popped up

Communication with the server failed. Would you like to switch libraries.

in the past if i hit no and then tried to goto next track the program would lock up.... this time i hit no and hit next track and it went no problem...tried it 2 more times and good. version 32.0.58 across all devices and main server.
