OT: A very innovative disk space explorer
« on: February 03, 2003, 04:15:15 am »

To All,

have a look at SequoiaView, a very innovative disk space explorer developed at the institute of mathematics at the Technical University of Eindhoven, Netherland. You will always know and be in control of all the files that use up your precious disk space.

You can downlad the program at: http://www.win.tue.nl/sequoiaview/ for free!

Each file is displayed as a square according to its size. Here a glimpse on how it looks like:

Have fun!

I just gave it a try and WOW it is great.  It immediately pinpointed a few huge wav files that I forgot to delete after doing some editing.  Plus it was interesting to see just how large some files were getting, like Outlook's .pst file.  And the perspective on video and image file sizes was nice - was able to see a few huge MS Picture It .mix collage files that I need to compress or delete, plus some very large source dirs/files that can be archived.

Fascinating. Markeau's right. Much easier to pick out a couple of huge files I forgot to purge when I can inspect the entire disk visually.

King:

Give it a whirl. I just picked up 1.5GB buried in odd corners. Besides, it looks like a Hunter Thompson bedtime story.

Hmm  - You guys should look at: TreeSize Pro - it's by Jamsoft.

They make a PROPER useful version of this tool.
Their older builds are free and it'll help you work out your hard drive spacing properly and easily.

It integrates into explorer too for easy right click access.

Fascinating...screen copies of the drives' mosaic will look great on some solid models.
