High use of CPU in HDR
« on: September 07, 2024, 04:28:55 am »

Hi, there!

Just testing MC33 before buying the license and I noticed a bigger consumption of CPU then MC32 when watching 4K HDR movies.

In my case, the video start stuttering. I'm using JRVR.

MC32: circa 40%
MC33: circa 75%

How to solve this?

JRVR has settings you can change for performance.  There's a JRVR thread here and info on the wiki.

Hi, there, Jim!

MC33 is still using higher CPU then MC32 when watching 4K HDR content.

I reinstalled MC32 in the same PC and checked again. If I use the same JRVR settings on MC33 that is used on MC32, image starts stuttering.

Can anyone help me to solve the issue, please? If not, I'll have to go back to 32, although I bought the 33 license.

Thanx in advance.

In JRVR settings -> Advanced -> disable Use Presentation Queue. See if this helps.

In my case I disabled it because it raised the GPU usage so much that the fans were always turned on.

Here there are two pix from JRVR OSD Debug, using the same video file: Eric Clapton Slowhand at 70, MKV created with MakeMKV.

your system can't keep up in either case given that render times are >16.6ms and you have loads of dropped frames in each example

This amount of drops only occur in this specific video. I used it as an example just to show the difference of performance.

The number of drops on MC33 is almost 2x MC32

Do other 60fps videos have same problem? What codec is it? What settings? Do any settings work? Not enough details provided for anyone to comment as far as I can see so you just have to try things yourself to see what is up.

I tested with other MKV 4K 60 fps and the drops are high, too... On 24fps, drops are circa 15.

My JRVR settings are as attached:

Disable HDR to HDR tonemapping.

What kind of processor with integrated GPU could play these kind of video files without stuttering?

Do you think AMD Ryzen 7 5700G can do the job?

Thanx.
