Best practice to display long comments
« on: November 02, 2024, 11:47:27 am »

Since I listen to loong progrock songs I have for many years written hundreds of personal notes in the comments field (for example important information when a guitar-solo starts and stops ;D). Some comments are rather long and don't fit on one line (even if I only show comments in the info-field the screen is not wide enough). I know that I can use Theater View to read those comments in mulitline mode but for several reasons I prefer the Standard View window (one being that it's easier to make new/edit comments...). My question is if there is a way to read multiline comments in Standard View? There is also a "popup" box when I hover above the comments-field that is handy, could I "freeze" that view so it doesn't disappear when I move the cursor? I have also been thinking about moving all my comments to the lyrics field? Would it then be possible to move several comments to the lyrics-field at once through some sort of batch-function? I hope someone recognize this issue and could give some tips...

While Comment does not support multiple line entry/display, MC has several built-in tags that do, such as Notes and Description, both of which sound ideally suited for your desired purpose. If for some reason you don't want to use those fields, or are using them for something else already, you can create your own custom field - just be sure to designate the edit type as "Large Value".

And you can easily move your existing comments to another tag by selecting the desired files, right-click for the context menu and select LibraryTools > Moving / Copy Fields…

All that said, viewing the contents will be limited to the popup as you hover over it for the multi-line tags/fields I suggested, though at least with these tags, the text will at least wrap around, versus what you are seeing when using the comments tag.  If you want to display the information in the main window however, your idea of copying them into the lyrics tag could be used to accomplish that.

Particles could help with portions of songs.  Wiki.
