License problem
« on: January 06, 2003, 07:20:44 pm »

I bought a MC9.0 license on Nov23,02.  I never used a restore, so i uninstall it tonight to get a fresh install with the 9.0.90 build.  The 2 week restore lic file I had was out of date. So I went to the restore lic page and submit my lic number, and i get an error
"Error

We could not find that license."

So I was like ok, lets try my email, maybe somethings wrong here. I get my email, with my lic in it, and it said

"Here are the Registration Codes associated with your email address:
JRiver, Inc. Media Jukebox 9: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, no restores"

So I copy paste the lic i got from my email on teh restore site and i get

"Error

This license is invalid or has been restored too many times. "

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY 10!!!! ? ?

This is very frustrating, because for one, I payed the 24.95 price, and that was only a freakin month ago, and I do not think I should hafta pay 34.98 one month later for a proge i had 10 restores on and never used...

I have really enjoyed used Media jukebox since the beta release of 7.0, and i just don't want a lil issue like this messing up something so great.

-thanks

A guns-blazing message isn't going to help.  Chill out a little and we'll get it going.

About 9 times out of 10, problems like this turn out to be wrong version of license or wrong version of program.

Which build of 9.0 are you using?

There are a lot of answers here:

That build was pulled.  I don't think that's the problem, but try build 88.  It's here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90088.exe

Your records show 1 restore and 11 installs.  You have 9 restores left.  That's not the problem.

going back to 9.0.88 does not help.

you can't get it to work once 9.0.90 is installed.

uninstalling 9.0.90 does not help.

deleting J river\media Center does not help

-------------------

I gave up, and i was not the only one.

-----------------

reinstalling 9.0.90 does get MC back but not working.

lol couldn't resist to reply to this one huh  ;)

yes, i know about uninstalling it, but i figured i'd start with fresh ini files, and a new registry setting.

when i said i deleted it from my PC i mean't it, i didn't just uninstall it, i got rid of teh registry entries, and windows installer files.

but after i reinstalled i forgot that the restore file only works for 2 weeks.

I realize many have already posted about this, but I am running '88', and am 99% positive that my license should be valid.

About a week ago MC 9.0 (what I'm almost certain was the latest version) started telling me it had expired -- I upgraded my 8.0 license before the early December cutoff. I still had my license file on my hdd, but restoring with that hung my computer (Win2K or XP). So, I figured I would try a web restore (typed in code on website to get a new file). All seemed to work, but today I again just received that I am not registered. If it helps, I can email the email I got from the website, along with the license file...

One more thing - I just bought a new PC, and am trying to install MC on it, as well. I get the same problem - it doesn't want to take the license file.

Can somebody please help me get this resolved?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob W,

I do know for a fact, that the license files only work for 2 weeks if you got that license file longer then two weeks ago, you have to go and get a new one again..  :-/

I have no idea why they started doing that, I understand pirating reasons maybe, but it's hurting the members who truelly love the program, and want to try each build as they are released.

Other then that Bob, I think thats all that your experiencing.  If your for sure that reg file is not older then 2 weeks, and you tried to get a new restore like I had and it doesn't work, then you have a prob, but as I can read you needa just go get a new restore file.  ;D

good luck,

If you've had a problem in the last 24 hours, please try again.  We created a problem when we switched product names, and it should work now.

eq,
Just use the install key you received in the last e-mail.

He did go to the restore page, and he said it worked. but it seems MC is forgeting it is registered.

I think someone else had this problem, not sure what it was.

maybe they were logged in as another user on the same computer.

I seen that, but the 2 week old file hung his PC so he went and get a new restore file, but as JimH just mentioned, when they switched over to Media Center, they experienced license probs, cuz as soon as i installed build 90, i got "YOUR EVAL PERIOD IS OVER" on the program start after installation.

and Jim has stated they are workign on it. so i just hope it gets straight, because this is gunna cause much more headace, and new threads then they need.

and thanks JimH, after typing this i'm going to try, if it fails, i'll let you know.

peace

OWIE, ok you did it for me, i got the email, and the reg file.

I'm going to try build 90 again, and make a full bug report, then switch back to 88' until the build matt has stated to be released near end of week. the fact that the program is experiencing these problems are because of the unicode decoder, in the past i have seen this happen a lot when adding such a feature.

I have faith in JRiver, so rest assured i'll never leave this community.

Thanks again JimH for the help.

Only JimH can say that.

Glad it's working for you.

Maybe Bob W will have the same kind of luck...

Well, I must say it seems possible!! I have just attempted to reinstall, and it appears to have been successful.

I will be sure to let you guys know if tomorrow it decides that I have not registered, but as of now... yay!  ;D

Thanks for the discussion,
Bob

:'( Ugh - this is the first time I have ever posted to a forum, but from what I understand this is what I have to do to request customer service.

I downloaded the Media Jukebox 8.0 several months ago, and finally made the decision to go ahead and buy the complete version.

After debating which one was the right one for me, I decided to go ahead and get the latest and greatest Media Jukebox 9.0.  I figured with it being so close to the Feb 1st release date, how many bugs could it have.

I found out when I received my registration code and attempted to download.  A pop up message box informed me that I had an invalid registration code.  I tried and re-tried several times, but with the same results.  I even used one of my restores (whatever the heck that is).

I logged in here and tried some of the links.  I did get the version 9.0 to load finally, but today when I started it up, it told me I should buy the registered version.  Its telling me I could use another one of my restores, but I'm afraid that I would just be using something that I have a limited supply of with the same results.

I'm not angry, but this forum for customer service seems difficult and cumbersome.  ?  And that's only if I'm responding in the right spot.  Assistance requested.

Hi Fabmonster,

Yes. You are in the right spot. Welcome to Interact. While this might seem a cumbersome way to get assistance, I think you'll find that there are more people who are willing to help here than over a direct line to the company or through email. Many of the users who frequent this forum have been using, and troubleshooting, Media Center for the past many months, and the various versions of Media Jukebox before that. As well, the guys who build MC (including the CEO, JimH), check in here many times a day... every day. :D

Actually, it was the immediate attention I received for my troubles in this forum that led me to buy MJ!

Now, for your troubles....

What version of the program are you running? Please go to the Help menu in Media Center and click on System Info.... copy to clipboard.... and then come back here and paste it into a message here.

Have you tried completely uninstalling MC.... rebooting... and then reinstalling the latest build (always found in the first post of the first thread on this board)?

That'll get you started.

Later  :)

Please make sure you have the latest version of 8.0.  It's on our downloads page.

Then check the FAQ here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

Then provide as much detail as you can.

Install keys are good for 14 days.  Registration Codes can be used anytime to get a new one.

Thanks, Wile E. One.

Can you give us the exact text of the error code? It might help locate the problem.

Thanks!
