I agree with so many others that Eos is superior to JRemote 2 and, of course, Gizmo.  I Have all of these but have been using Eos happily on my phone (Android 10) and even a much older tablet.  JRiver made a huge mistake in not adopting the look and feel of Eos.

A problem has arisen with a new tablet running Android 14.  Android 14 blocks many, many older apps so that simply transferring the Eos APK to it in the ususal manner doesn't work.  It is blocked.  Android will tell you it cannot run on the new device.

There is a work-around for older apps that gets by the limitation, but I have not been able to use it successfully for Eos.  I'm writing to ask if anyone has been able to do it and run Eos on an Android 14 device.

Chances are it probably won't work well if at all on newer Android versions due to the API level target and it being years behind newer API levels which are a requirement in newer Android versions. I honestly wouldn't recommend trying to use eos at all anymore due to it being discontinued years ago and I doubt the developer would appreciate people downloading and using pirated APK files in order to use it.

JRemote3 just came out with a new internal player meant for better hardware support and better support for newer Android versions. Been using it on Android 15 and it runs wonderfully. If it's missing any features that eos had but JRemote2 or JRemote3 doesn't support, maybe try requesting it in the release topic.

It's not a  question of missing features.  I use a remote only for listening to music, mostly classical and Eos, old as it is, has all the features I need and for me is the equal of JRemote 2 in that regard. 

The problem with JRemote2, and i believe that will carry over to JRemote3, is that on the screen there is a great deal of wasted space.  For example, all lists seem to be double spaced so that each screen has just 1/2 the info as Eos.  Also, in icon format there is only one short line of info rather than 2 longer ones.  For classical selections that is a severe limitation for you want Composer, Music, & Conductor.  Also, when showing a large album cover on Eos there is still a list of album files--not so on JRemote2 where there is a lot of blank space and you have to go to another screen to see additional tracks.  Eos is so much simpler to deal with.

If you think it would do any good for the development of JRemote3 I would be happy to send Eos screen shots to show what I mean and why the "look and feel" of Eos works so well.  Or I would be even happier to send Eos APK to JRemote3 developers (or you) for them to see what we Eos users like so much.  Sending that APK when Eos has not been available for a decade or so (?) and apparently can no longer be used on later Android devices, would not bother me at all.  In any event, one only has to tell me where to send whatever could be useful.  I like Eos so much I would be happy to do that.  If the developers have not seen Eos, they should.  Same for yourself, I think.

The EOS apk does work on android 14, as I use it on my fully updated OnePlus 9 Pro.

And I agree, it is still the absolute best remote for JRiver. It is a mystery to me that the JRiver team does not make a proper remote (look at Plex and EOS for inspiration on the UI). JRemote3 looks so dated and now it even costs money

You forget that eos was a paid app too and all remotes available for Android and iOS except Gizmo are paid apps and that the eos app developer discontinued and completely removed eos from the platform. Even if you bought it (which I did) you can't download it anymore like you can other apps not sold anymore. I'm sure the developer probably wouldn't like that APKs of their app they sold then discontinued/pulled from the platform are floating around still. Honestly allowing topics about this, especially discussing or asking for eos APKs (which is piracy), even if you bought it, probably shouldn't be allowed.

To each their own and eye of the beholder, but I don't care what it looks like as long as it works, which it does. Plus, it looks fantastic. If you're a developer, you can develop your own remote app like the original JRemote (before JRiver bought it), eos was and MO 4Media is and make it look and function however you want.

I bought EOS many years ago, so I definitely feel entitled to use it on my current smartphone.

It is not different from using an old program bought for Windows XP.

Unless you're privvy to information not available to the rest of us, I'm sure you have no idea what the developer would or would not like.  For all we know the developer (or his heirs) may take some pride in seeing that so many of us admire his app that we're trying to keep it alive by whatever means.  Moreover IMO there is an ethical lapse on the part of an app developer, especially where the app is paid for, to keep accessablilty to purchasers for at least a while as they upgrade their equipment.  That seems to be the practice in the industry.  For some purchasers, the withdrawal of Eos was virtually immediate.  I paid for the app and feel cheated by its quick withdrawal.  Furthermore there is absolutely no loss of income to the developer if users circulate the app's APK for the simple reason that the app is no longer for sale.  That's what piracy is about.  So what complaint could the developer (if he's still with us) possibly have?  I would have absolutely no hesitation to send the APK to a friend.

That being said if the various users of Eos are credible, there must be something that Eos has and that the several generations of JRemote doesn't have.  Mainly it is in the look and feel of the app and its ability to put a lot of information on the screen with clarity.  At various times I have offered to send Eos screen shots to the JRemote people so they could see why Eos remains a favorite, but no one over there seems to be interested.

As with all software, you purchased a license that allowed you to use the software on the current version of the O.S.  It didn't entitle use on all future versions.
