Audio output stops between tracks, files, videos
« on: January 25, 2025, 10:14:44 am »

Ok, this is not strictly MC related, as it occurs with other apps as well (YouTube etc).

Htpc is a little Geekom box with more than enough oomph to run MC. It has integrated intel graphics. Output is via hdmi. Box runs W11 pro, with latest updates. I keep the GPU driver updated with latest drivers. Hdmi goes via a 4k hdmi splitter to a Sony receiver. all hdmi cables are 8k certified.

System happily plays all sorts of stuff, from low res MP3 up to 8 track hi-res Dolby Atmos rips from audio Blu-ray. But, sometimes, by which I mean more than occasionally,, audio output just stops. JRiver shows that the file is playing, but no sound comes through. Happens mostly when starting a new file, but also after pausing a file that is already playing.
Stopping playback and asking the file to play again usually fixed the problem, but may take several returns. For YouTube, running under chrome, reloading the page usually does the trick.

Does not seem to be dependent on file type, audio codec etc, and all types play eventually. I've updated drivers etc, but problem persists.

As I said, not strictly MC, but just wondered if anyone has ever seen anything like it.

What happens if you remove the HDMI splitter?

Initial testing suggests that the problem goes away. Unfortunately the problem was never 100% consistent so I can't be completely sure. Fingers crossed. Bloody obvious really, I should have tried it a long time ago. I'll try a different splitter. Thanks
