Volume Problem
« on: January 29, 2025, 05:29:33 pm »

I have two problems.

#1, every time I click on a song to play, the volume goes up to full volume, even though I have set the initial volume to a lower setting.

Secondly, I've tried to show the lyrics, sometimes I have luck.  I have an album by Daughtry called Shock to the System Part one.  I have right clicked Lookup Lyrics, and I have lyrics checked in the current view.

All I can find is not related to either.

Uncheck the option Options >Startup > Optimize volume for best sound quality

Switch to Internal Volume if you still have the problem. Maybe the device simply sets full volume on playback?

Internal volume uses MC's 64-bit data path so is as good as you can get anyway.

Thank you very much.  The problem is on the Player/Playback Options, Select Audio Device (I have a different set of hiqh quality speakers that I use to play music from).  The Audio section has an  Advanced Tab, Device Settings, and there's an option to "Maximum Device Volume During Playback".

Thanks to you I found this one.  Much appreciated.

Glad you found it.

For the lyrics lookup problem, make sure you're on the latest:

If you still have problems, post the artist, album, and track name and we can try here.

Thanks.

You can alleviate some suffering by using the search box the bottom of the Options window to search the myriad of settings MC offers.  That said, Maximize Volume during Playback would not be found since it is a separately launched dialog.  Really strange that setting was active by default.  I cannot imagine that is typical or intended for new installs.

I believe it was because the speakers were separate from my pc speakers, but can't be sure.  Options that deep should be more prevalent.

Improving the Options Search Bar needs to be an ongoing effort by JRiver for the benefit of both new and experienced users.  Reporting items missed by the Options Search Bar should be encouraged, and then add them.  Currently the response is hit and miss.  In this case, three missed headings on the popup Tools > Options (or Player > Playback Options...) > Audio > Device Settings... , namely Volume, Buffering ("Buffer"), and Output, should be added to the search engine database to expose this popup.

Another example:  This recent comment wrt to the setting "Options > General > Features > Upload to Cloud", which is missed by a search on "Cloudplay", has not been remedied:
Note:
The Options Search Bar (bottom of Options Window) finds this setting for a search on Cloud.
A search on Cloudplay misses it, unfortunately.

Perhaps it is time for a systematic examination of (1) all the Options popup headers, their settings, and Search and (2) the engine's subword response.

You'd probably find it by searching for volume.

The wiki has a volume topic.

Wiki article is interesting but does not hit on this.  In a web search on "JRiver MC - Volume", I found the OP's problem and solution described here:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,113754.msg786283.html#msg786283

In my setup (USB DAC with ASIO driver), when I look at MC's Tools > Options > Audio > Device Settings... I do not find the referenced setting "Maximum Device Volume During Playback" at all.  So apparently the appearance of this setting is device/driver/audio path specific, as the OP kind of indicated.  But an Options Search on "Volume" should have at least exposed the popup (based on its "Volume" header), as suggested above, to speed up the OP's discovery process.
