MC cannot find my EXISTING Asset UPnP DLNA server
« on: February 15, 2025, 03:47:21 am »

I tried MC a few versions back and was just frustrated, but I thought I'd try it again.

I have Asset UPnP set up and everything on my network sees it fine, SONOS, Yamaha MusicCast, Windows, etc... But MC won't see it at all.  Why?

this bit from the wiki seems to indicate it should show up under Playing Now, but it does not.

Both Renderers and Servers will be found, in that order, under Playing Now in the tree on the left. It may take a minute or so for the devices to show up.

Ultimately, I want to send 6 channel flac over the HDMI from my PC to my receiver.  Yamaha won't play the multichannel directly from the network, so I need an intermediary device.

Can MC do that?

Why would I set up media network?

I want MC to be a DLNA CLIENT, not a server.

Thanks, I can clearly see that forking out $89 for this product would be a bad idea.

MC is supposed to DISCOVER my server, I should not have to lead it to it.

4.3 Device discovery and control
Device discovery and control enables a device on the home network to discover the presence and
capabilities of other devices on the network and collaborate with these devices in a uniform and
consistent manner. The UPnP Device Architecture, version 1.0 (ISO/IEC 29341-1), addresses all of
these needs and simplifies device networking in the home. For this reason, UPnP Device
Architecture is the device discovery and control solution for DLNA devices. Subclause 9 specifies
the detailed guidelines to enable interoperability between DLNA devices in the digital home

Any reason you need two user names?

SSDP provides device discovery for DLNA / UPnP.  JRiver uses it if you turn on DLNA by enabling Media Network.
