Using HDMI splitter with JRiver.…?
« on: March 02, 2025, 06:24:45 pm »

I couldn't get my issue nicely into a subject line... :P

I'm trying to get JRiver on an HTPC to work with 9-yr old, HDR LG OLED TV and a 14-yr old Marantz pre/pro. The Marantz won’t pass HDR, so an HDMI must go directly to the TV. The TV wont pass TrueHD/DTS-HD MA, so an HDMI must go directly to the Marantz.

An HDMI splitter with pass HDR and advanced audio codecs. But how will JRiver work? What gear will it “see” through the splitter?

Thanks,
Jeff

A plain dumb splitter will not work.  The more "intelligent" version of these devices will have a set of dip switches (or SW) that will transmit a fixed EDID to the HTPC so MC will be completely ignorant of what is actually connected past the splitter.  Good luck, these things are finnicky.

Thanks. Any guidance on particular models or maybe what chipset to look for?

What do I need to look for WRT EDID management? I know I want JRiver to see the TrueHD/DTS MA capability. (It’s looking at bandwidth, correct?) Does JRiver need to see the display resolution as well?

Codec support is flagged via the cea861 data block(s)

If you really need deep control over the edid then likely you need something like an hdfury but I suspect a cheap splitter like the ezcoo will do the job. Order from Amazon and return if it is no good would be usual tactic I think.

Thanks. Went with a JTech for 30-something. Ordered from Amaz.

Is JRiver looking at EDID?

EDID is communication at the hardware level, so no.  Try the Wikipedia topic on EDID.

I'd start thinking about replacing the Pre / AVR.

DOGE nixed it.
