How to use shaders? I cannot get them to actually work
« on: March 02, 2025, 08:13:18 pm »

Hi!
I have been trying to use the same Adaptive Sharpen shader I was using on MPC-HC but I dont see it taking any effect.
Also, I cant seem to find a way to have a shader under a specific profile either.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Use JRVR and explore the options there.  More on the wiki.

JRVR includes Adaptive Sharpen already, check Settings -> Video -> JRVR Settings -> Processing. You can turn on Sharpening there and tune its strength to your liking.

In the same place, you can also load custom shader - however, JRVR uses mpv style .glsl/.hook type shader, not the .hlsl shaders that MPC-HC uses, so you can't use those here, but would instead need to find a mpv glsl shader of the same type.

I saw that sharpening but the results dont seem to be as good as the adaptive sharpening shader I was using. I will play with it more.
Thanks for the tip on the shader type as well!

I tried the shaders and also several for Non Linear Stretch and no matter what I do, I cannot see them taking any effect after adding it.
Maybe I have some conflicting settings ?
I play a 16:9 image and non of the NLS shaders I tried made any changes to the image.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Can you share the actual shader you are using?

seems like some of them aren't hook style so which ones are you using and expecting to work?

Which one was that?
Maybe some of my other settings regarding black bars, aspect ratio etc are not letting them show any changes when I try them?
Thanks
