Do I Need to Restore My License After an Update?
« on: March 11, 2025, 11:26:15 pm »

Hey everyone,
I recently updated JRiver, and after the update, I was prompted to restore my license. I’m not sure why this was necessary, but now it says I only have seven restores left for the rest of the year. I only got JRiver about two months ago, and I’ve only installed it once, so I don’t understand why my restore count is saying 7. Has anyone else experienced this? Why would an update require a license restore? Any insights would be appreciated! How I activated my license was by putting in the code and that's it. Cut and pasting it in

How licensing works:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

I read that wiki and it does not answer my question. If there were anything resembling customer support, I would gladly address this issue with them instead of on this forum. Unfortunately, there is nothing.

If you run out of restores, just post here and we can reset you.

One thing if MC is losing its registered state, make sure the clock on your system is set correctly. Also make sure features like Wi-Fi MAC address randomization is disabled, as that can cause MC to lose its registered state. Changing the hostname on the system could also potentially cause it.

Changing the hostname on the system could also potentially cause it.

One of the mistakes that I've made when reloading one of my pcs is installing/registering Media Center BEFORE I correct the PC hostname to my preferred. This always requires me to do a restore/reregister so now I try to remember I register MC after I have completed the reload/config.
