Volume "ploc" when reaching 0%
« on: March 12, 2025, 08:47:27 am »

Hi everyone,
This is my first post, so first of all thanks the developpers for this neat piece of software.
I'm using it since severall years and never had to complain about it until... now :)
I wanted indeed to use a Stream Deck to control and it uses Panel commands, so that my grown up familly (still young though) can now use it without having to graduate ( ;D  it's an active system with convolution and such, a "gas usine")

Long story short the problem is the following : when putting the volume at 0% there is a bump or a ploc (excuse my french) caused by JRiver. First time it happened the Subs went crazy... This happens also when you use the slide bar with the mouse.
I never encountered the problem as I never want to put the volume at 0% but with a knob it's very easy when you want to decrease the volume, to reach this value.
Is it normal?
Also it happens on two different computers; MC 30 and 32, Internal volume set, with adaptive volume and volume leveling options,
ASIO driver for both

Before posting i searched on the forum but did not succeed to find something about this. If this issue is already known and covered i am sorry about the disturbance.

Thanks everyone for your help

This is a mystery to me. Since you're using internal volume, that should be the 64-bit data path in MC which is awesome.

I just turned my Mytek DAC on nice headphones down to zero using internal volume and no noises.

Try playing to a different DAC.  The sound is probably coming from it.

Thanks for your swift replies.
I digged a little bit and here is what i found :
I have in the DSP 12 channels output format with the following DSP : Format - Volume Leveling - Adaptive Volume - Parametric Equalizer - Convolution

I tried with Asio Link Pro a to perform dummy test (to protect the system and easily visualize the level on each channel). Otherwise in normal condition I use Motu 24Ao with ASIO

I replicate the problem with all dsp settings "as is" when using AsioLinkPro tool
The problem disappears only when i untick "Convolution" and keeping "Parametric Equalizer". In all other situations remaining - With convolution on - the problem is here.

So i tried when i untick the "process independently of internal volume" option for convolution processing, because i had it ticked, and the problem disappeared!

That's interesting. I just tried with using a convolution filter I had and it doesn't tick at low volumes. Could you share the convolution file with me? Maybe it will turn something up. I'm matt at jriver. Thanks.

I had the exact same issue many years ago (a loud pop on 0% volume with convolution when the process independently box was ticked)!

The advice I got at the time was that you should never tick the "process independently of internal volume" box unless you have a very specific reason for doing so, and generally only for visualizers, not for DSP.

Think I just reproduced it. I'm wondering if the thing scaling the internal volume back up is just growing out of bounds.
