auto tagging

I'm not really sure what JRiver does with it's tagging. I used outside software to manage my tags and I always clear "album artist" and just use "artist". I'm not sure when, but occasionally I will notice that the album artist is filled in again after an auto import (along with disc number and who knows what else). What is "album artist (auto)"? Is this causing the problem, and if so, how do I stop it from doing it?
I don't want JRiver to change any tags unless I do so manually. Problem is, I have no idea how/where to go in all the settings to make this the case.
Can anyone shed some light?

Not well. At least, I can't understand it. I did several google searches and read the references to the wiki, but couldn't understand where to go (or settings to choose/not choose to keep this from happening).
So would anyone else have a link for some helpful advice?
