How to change date to just year (not month and day)
« on: March 30, 2025, 11:26:48 am »

For some reason I am seeing day, month year in some of my date tags. I have never used those types of dates and my other tagging software that I use for all my tagging (dbpoweramp and tag&rename) are set for year only. So how are these day, month, year dates showing up for some of my files (not nearly all, so I don't understand why some and not others?)?
I would think this would be an easy setting, but doing a search led me down rabbit holes of adding special views with all kinds of strange characters and formatting with brackets, parenthesis, etc... Every other piece of software I've ever used just had a menu to choose the date style. Why isn't this easy?
I'm sorry if this is basic stuff, but I don't get why this appears so convoluted.

While we are at it, if someone is able to tell my how to set the date to year only, how, then, do I stop JRiver from auto-changing my dates back to day, month, year (which is what it is doing on its own currently)?

Thanks for any help - it is much appreciated:)

*sorry, I realized I might not have been clear - I'm referring to release date, not date of import, change, modified, etc...

You can read about tagging on the wiki.  There are several dates.

I was correcting my post when you replied - I am referring to release date of a recording. I have looked at the wikis and I'm not even finding the menus mentioned.
Here's one: Access View Customization: Navigate to "Options" > "Library & Folders" > "Customize Views".
In my version 31 there is no "customize views" under Library & Folders?

Am I understanding that there is no way to get just the year of release without creating some custom view?

Thanks

Date (release) shows nothing I'm assuming because most/all other ripping/tag software uses the generic "date" to mean release date. My entire (really large) library is tagged that way with the generic "date". I rip and change all tags with dbpoweramp and tag&rename.

So how can I get that date to just show year? No wiki is showing me how to do this? I see some wikis that say you have to create a new expression column. I don't even know what that is.

I'm not a computer expert by any stretch, but I've built some pcs and am fairly tech savvy, but these wikis are written for coders, or people with FAR more computer skills than your average customers (like me). I think that's why these forums are so full, because the wikis are over most of our heads.

Is there a way to give me a little more direction on what to do to solve my problem - or is it just not possible to have formatted to just "year"?

The wikis also aren't explaining why JRiver automatically writes its own tags without my prompt in day, month, year format. Why are only about 10% of my tags affected? Why not all? It makes no sense.

I really do sincerely appreciate your help.
