WavPack DSD stops after 1min
« on: April 04, 2025, 05:51:14 pm »

I am playing WavPack DSD64 2ch to Denon AVC-x3800h. Tried both playing from within MC to AVR and also from AVR via DLNA.
No matter what I do, the WavPack DSD 2ch stops always after 59sec or 1min.
The corresponding (non-compressed to WavPack) DSD64 files play just as I expected.
Is it a buffering issue or some wrong setting(s) I should change?
Thank you!

Sorry. This is MacBook Pro 2023 with M2 chip.
Latest version v33.0.71 (Silicon) but also the previous one I own v29.0.91 (Silicon).
My Denon AVR does not support DoP (not an issue here). DSD play correctly (confirmed by the AVR info).
[update]
It seems each track stops at 1/8 of the real length.
1Down to the Waterline0:31vs4:05
2Water of Love0:41vs5:27
3Setting me Up0:24vs3:19
4Six Blade Knife0:31vs4:13
5Southbound Again0:22vs3:01
6Sultans of Swing0:41vs5:49
7In the Gallery0:47vs6:17
8Wild West End0:35vs4:42
9Lions0:38vs5:07

I "convert" (it's a wrapping actually, not a real content conversion) all dsf tracks to wv using terminal command
Code: [Select]
wavpack -h *.dsf -o .The issue occurs when when playing to DLNA device (AVR here).

I found a way how to reproduce in another system.
It is definitely something wrong in the JR.

Have setup also JR with DLNA in my RPi 5 full OS version.
I play a DSD64 2ch Wavpack file:
1. From MacBook selecting the raspberrypi in the "Playing Now" section.
2. From Raspberry Pi selecting MacBookxxxxxxxx.local in the "Playing Now" section.

Both ways I have the exact behaviour. Track total length is displayed correctly when playing starts but then it is reduced to 1/8 after few seconds (5secs it seems). Very strange.

Anything else I have tried (both ways), DSD64 2ch, FLAC 2ch (including embedded DTSWAV) play perfectly.
It is something wrong with WavPack streaming.
Maybe someone can test the same (Play a DSD2ch WavPack file via DLNA between 2 JR instances Client vs Server)?

Is the duration correct in MC's library for the wavepack converted files?

It is always correct Bob.

The duration always drops to 1/8 of the song's length after few secs post playing start.
I have tried only with DSD64 WavPack files (not really interested in WAV packed to WavPack).
Anything I can further help, please let me know.

And I assume your DLNA settings for the server feeding that renderer in audio is "original format"?

Correct, cos DSD64 (2ch) play always correctly both ways (converted on the fly to PCM of course, of course :) )
[update] DLNA settings are:
"Specified output format only when necessary",
DSF
vw,
(all the rest have default values - deleted and recreated the Original Format DLNA just to be sure).
The vw behaviour (stop at 1/8 of the song) is same between all 3 players.
When streaming to Denon AVR though (via DLNA of course, not via HDMI), the track length stay correct. DSD stream is received from AVR. It stops at 1/8 of the song. :)
It is very strange though.
Maybe something is wrong with my WavPack encoder? Dunno.
