DSD 64 fs?
« on: April 11, 2025, 06:02:08 pm »

How does one configure JRiver to actually play files in this format. I am using a Benchmark DAC3 B. What should the settings be set to in JRiver

It's no different from other formats.

How is the device connected?  USB?

What happens if you try to play a file?

Enable DSD bitstreaming if connected via USB.

Yes USB. I have spent hours trying to figure out why my source file plays back magnificently,  a DSD 64 fs file but no other files on my windows version of MC31 will play, If I get everything else to play I lose the one that plays.

I am a tad old and remember olden times. If we were to discuss My final days with a  Nakamichi  (surely spelled wrong) Dragon cassette player I'd at least have a chance of understanding  but this problem is beyond me.

If I understand my computer with MC31 should be sending a signal to my DAC (Benchmark DAC3) That is supposed to convert the file into audio and then send it to my Prima Luna int amp.

All that works flawlessly until I get to a DSD file. Then everything stops. Up pops a notice telling me I have an error. I have perhaps a couple of dozen DSD files, almost all DSD 64 fs. If I can get one to work, why not the rest? And for that one file that works, why, if the next thing on my playlist is a 16/44 CD track does it refuse to play?

All that said, the one DSD file I have that does work sounds great.

Enable DSD bitstreaming if connected via USB.

Did that, no luck

You can try using MC's DSP Studio > Output format to convert everything to one format.  Switching isn't working somewhere along the way.

What are the model #'s of the Benchmark and Primaluna devices?  I added links in your prior post.

What type of files are they? .dsf? .dff? .dst? .wv? Something different? Mind uploading one that doesn't work to a site like Mega or Google Drive and sharing a link to test?

Benchmark DAC3B. The Prima Luna is an old but reliable Dialogue 2

I have semi solved my issue. I simply changed a single variable in the DSP studio and trying it. Doing that I ended up with a configuration that played all my files 24/192 or below and all but two of the DSD files worked.

If you have DSP Studio > Output Format > Output Encoding set to one of the DSD options, do know it's converting everything to DSD.
