Help / explaining - upgrading from 31 - HowTo?
« on: April 20, 2025, 10:29:29 am »

Hi,

Customer for many, many years, but not a regular user of JRiver MC, so please bear with me:

- Many moons ago I started buying JRiver Master licenses. I mostly work on macOS, but also from time to time on Windows and Linux too.
- In the past I have been a huge fan and user of LinuxMCE, LinuxMCE still exists but is as good as dead (I used it heavily from approx 2008 ~ 2012)
Probably LinuxMCE would resemble the capabilities of JRiver the most closely. (as far as known to me at least..)

The past years I have hardly looked at JRiver, so I really need to dig in again.

I have a macOS machine that is running Monterey, and it has a working copy of JRiver 31. I'd like to upgrade to 33, but it seems there have been changes to the licensing model of JRiver. (not all too clear to me at the moment)
So I purchased an upgrade towards 34 (Master license) but that does not seem to be available yet.

So I would like to upgrade my install to JRiver 33 in the mean time.
But can the 34 license be used on 33?

Also: I have downloaded 33 and am trying to install, but I can not get past the "Continue" button?

Thanks for helping out!

Yes, you can use a MC34 license in MC33 as long as you're using the latest version of MC33, which is 33.0.72.

Thanks for your support.  We should have a Mac version of MC34 on the forum this week, in case you want to wait.

Thanks for your replies!
In the mean time the install of 33 went ok, so no more problem there.

However, it will not accept the 34 license?
Would it be possible to also fix me a 33 license?

Thanks for helping out!

As I said, make sure you're using the latest MC33 build (33.0.72) and it will accept a MC34 license. If it's an older build of MC33 it won't work. It has to be the latest version of MC33.

You can find 33.0.72 in the pinned release topic at the top of this forum section.

Thanks for replying!
I seem to indeed have downloaded 33071.
I'll redownload and retry.

Just to let you know: It worked! ;D Thanks  ;)
