Media Editor Decoder Freezing
« on: January 17, 2003, 12:06:42 pm »

Hi all:

I was having the YADB vs. CDDB issue this week so I went ahead and changed to Media Center 9.  The recording of my cassettes was going fine, but today I needed to rip a track in half and so tried to open media editor.  I was able to open the program, then I went to open file, clicked on the file and then the "decoding" screen came up and it never started decoding...just sat there frozen.

Any ideas?  The media editor was working great on MJ 8.

Decoding to wav can take a long time.  What type of file was it?  How long?  Can you play the file?

Is your temp directory full?

Hi Jim,

Yes, I've seen some files take a really long time.  This was just a 6 minute, two-song, track that I was going to separate.  The temp directory is empty.  It's a MC9 file (just ripped off of cassette).

I wouldn't be concerned if there was progress being shown in the progress bar...but there is nothing...it never starts decoding.

Try leaving it for 20 minutes just to be sure.

Make sure you can play it first.

In Windows Explorer, Empty Recycle Bin.

In IE, do Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete Files.  This can take several minutes.

How fast is your machine?  You can paste your system info here.  Copy from MC Help's System info.

Could you try a small file?  One minute or less?

Yes, I was able to open a very small file.  Is there a setting default on MC that is causing this difficulty?  When I was using MJ8 just last week, I was able to open even the very large files (10+ minutes) quite easily on the same computer.

Any feedback on this issue?  I'm still stuck.

We're in the process of changing our decoding engine for MC 9.  Media Editor should get updated sometime in the next few weeks.

Thanks for hanging in there, and sorry for the hassles.
