I ran into problems with the upgrade- one I have never seen before in all the decades of upgrading versions. I am getting the message:
Code: [Select]
"Install Wizard could not copy necessary files to the destination folder. Please ensure that the file 'D:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 34\JRTools.dll' is not in use.Not only is this file confirmed not in use, that folder doesn't even exist yet. I also used PowerToys' File Locksmith to check the MC33 version of JRTools and it is not being used either. I quit out of the MC33 media server and turned off antivirus before the upgrade, so those aren't it.

I'm going to cancel the install and try again.

That usually happens because of antivirus, which depending what it is may not be possible to fully disable. Maybe try redownloading the installer for MC34 and try again.

What antivirus are you using?  We recommend only using Windows Defender.

Update installed without erroring the second attempt (with antivirus re-enabled, btw). However, the installer did not bring in any of the existing File Associations from MC33 this time and did not recognize/bring in the MC34 license that I installed on MC33 immediately after purchase back on 3/17/25. I haven't had either of those problems on an upgrade install before either.

All the other settings from MC33 seem to have come across and it seems to be working correctly, so not sure why those specific items were a problem this time around. I'm not looking for help, just reporting since it's the initial public release.

On the topic "Moving to MC34 from an Older Version" found at https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,141159.0.html is this text:
"When you install MC for Windows, it will find your old database, copy it and use it.  It should just work when you run it.  You can also restore your settings at the same time."

However, when MC34 launched after installation, it didn't appear to have any of my settings AND it was about to start "Import Media" before I cancelled it.

This can't be how things should go. Any idea what the issue might be? I should mention my first version was MC19 and that I have versions 30, 31, 32, and 33 on this W10 PC. The past few years, I have run into the same issue with each upgrade, although I'm just reporting it this year for the first time. It appears to not be finding my MC33 database or my settings.

If all else fails do a manual library backup in MC33 then in MC34 restore the library backup.

Recently installed JRMCv34 and, it seems, everything from v33 install was transferred except the VST plug-in.  Installing it was simple but I am wondering if this lapse is known or unexpected?

That should restore settings too if you select the option to (and they were included in the library backup).

It's part of the restore process.

Hello,  I have upgraded from MC32 to MC33 which wnet fine.  Now I upgraded from MC33 to MC34.   MC34 does not list my media player in the Playing Now section.  I clicked "Refresh Dynamic Entries" and it still does not appear.

I rebooted and no change.  I went back to MC33 and it works fine.

Any ideas how I can link MC34 to my player?

TIA,
Todd

What is "my media player"?  How is it connected?

The media player I'm using is a McIntosh RS250, which is connected to my home Wi-Fi network via Ethernet cable.

My laptop, which has JRiver Media Center installed, is connected to the same network wirelessly.

I also attempted to connect to MC34 using JRemote on my iPhone, but it was unable to find the server.

I tried adding a new server manually using the access key, but JRemote still couldn’t establish a connection.

Thanks,
Todd

Issue Solved.

For the record the fix was:

Go to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app through Windows Firewall,
and ensure JRiver is listed and allowed for Private networks.
