Fixes: the "Invalid Entries in Database" bug (378,039 files) is no longer a problem for me. Also, "Export Playlist" is now active simply from selecting the Playlist in the Tree View.
Bugs:
1. Files with extensions JPG and JPEG are imported. JPG's can be opened within MC, but JPEGs get a "File not found" message. I think the extension is getting truncated to 3 characters.
2. Pressing "Shift+Click" in the new scrollbars does not move the scroll position directly to the Shift+Click position; it only moves it a page in that direction.
3. Pressing "Enter" while viewing songs plays all displayed songs, not all selected songs. No option found to change this behavior.
4. Smartlists and Playlists do not copy. If you drag-n-drop a list to a Playlist Group while holding the Ctrl key, the [+] "copy cursor" is shown, but the list is moved - not copied.
5. Using "Export Playlist...", playlists are now unusable due to Unicode.
No other program reads them - even MS Notepad!!!
Note that the fields are truncated by approximately half their length, as well. Playlists should export in ASCII by default, with an option of Unicode format.
5(b) The Export filename does not use the Playlist/Smartlist name.
5(c) If you edit the Export filename, then click "M3U", the Export filename edits are lost - in particular, the new drive/path I entered was lost.
6. "Export All Playlists" causes program termination. A few lists are created before it ends.
7. When editing any Search field, such as a Smartlist, if you click at the end of the string... the whole string is highlighted. The cursor -is- placed at the end of the string, but if you start typing the whole string is lost. Previously, clicking at the ends or between parameters positioned an edit cursor without selecting anything.
8. If you're editing a View Scheme Search field in its dialog box and use arrow keys to reposition the cursor, right-clicking a Search Qualifier which was originally "to the right of the CEdit window" frequently causes the wrong item to be edited or removed.
9. In lists of certain sizes, the Scroll Position Indicators do not size properly to the ratio "VisibleItemCount / ListItemCount". IIRC, list size was about 50 in Convert Format but vertical scroll indicator was a ball, even though it moved about 1/5-1/4 of the scroll bar height.
10. Animated GIFs only show the first frame. "ROVER_MOVIE" and "ROVER_MOVIE_SOL4_S0050B" from the 1997 Mars Pathfinder landing shows this problem; I'll send one if you don't see the problem.
11. When viewing images, the center <- / -> arrows show "n/a" but moves you fwd/bwd through list. Once you've pressed one, the space bar will re-activate it, but Enter does not. When you start viewing played images, the "Advance" button is not default, so the space key doesn't work until you press a button.
11b. When viewing images, the left <- / -> arrows have the caption "Image" but do nothing. They don't really appear disabled, as the icons of the arrows are as clear/bright as buttons that are enabled.
11c. If you're looking at an "Internal" view of "Playing Now" and press the Windowed button, the focus does not shift to the new image window - thus, keyboard playback controls appear non-functional.
12. Is this a bug? With a View Scheme, I can make temp modifications to the search scheme in the search bar. I "Edit a View Scheme" to make permanent changes. Smartlists don't work the same way... changes I make in the search bar are optionally applied based on a dialog that appears when leaving the Smartlist. These two M.O.'s are confusing, and I wish that Smartlists worked like View Schemes: temp mods above, "Edit this" for perm mods.
13. Could you please expose "Composer" to IMJFile?
uh... this release has caused many difficulties. All my View Schemes were lost at installation of .098 - I had to re-enter them manually. The iPod plug-in still has issues, so I'd been using XPlay to sync when I *need* the iPod. Now there is no way to succesfully export Smartlists, so I can't use XPlay. Although I imaged my system drive at .088, the APE's I've created since .098 have a new APE header - will they work if I revert, I wonder? I think I'm totally committed to the .98+ path at this point, though.
It would be *GREAT* if y'all could fix the Playlist Export bugs soon. They are a primary connection to many handheld players and seem fundamentally important.
MC9 has MANY nice features over MJ8. Is there any chance we could take a couple weeks to just tighten the nuts and polish the chrome? E.G., the new scrollbars are pretty, but they've brought their own set of issues with them... Unicode has brought its set of issues... I feel this need to get a stable MC9 in my hands again. (Thx for hearing me)
Now, since we post a lot of bug reports here, I'll post a nice one:
I have lots of digital images saved. MC9 is letting me categorize them and make sense out of the mess. I can find images
so easily now: "Astronomy", "Pathfinder", "Mars", "1997", "Historic"...
"Travel", "Holland", "Hilversum", "Lapershoek", "Lisse", "Flowers"...
"Original", "Scanned", "Downloaded"... "Processed", "Cropped", "Reduced", "Thumbnail", "100x100"...
"Gems", the most special view/list.
Exposure information(!), when used in conjunction with PIE Studio (
http://www.picmeta.com/ ). PIE lets me put every field associated with a digital-camera image in its filename:
2000_2000-01-27 (07.12.53)_S60 A4.0 Z124mm Normal F1.jpgMC9 can parse the filename and path into columns, so the directory hieracrchy I was using made categorizing the images almost automatic. A few hours here and there enjoying the photos and giving them keywords has been a pleasure. Since I can store the info in the JPG file and use Smartlists and View Schemes to look at my files, I can rebuild the cross-referencing at any time simply by importing. And I can report that JPGs I've modified with MC9 field info have remained viewable in all other viewers I use.
If only I could export/import the logical structure of View Schemes and Smartlists into a text format file; *.MJL (L = Logic). The feature seems incomplete without the ability to post my Smartlist structure or exchange it with friends. You see... Smartlists are cool. The don't refer to drives and paths, so their logic can be shared between users in ways traditional Playlists cannot.
Time to enjoy the weekend,
Randy
