Crashes on v34.24
« on: May 16, 2025, 01:55:36 pm »

Most crashes I've had w/ JRiver ever. At least 1x a day last few days.

3 times yesterday, immediately after opening the app and selecting anything in the tree view. Eventually ran ok for rest of day. Was totally hung/frozen when I went to use it a moment ago. v33 rarely if ever crashed on me.

Have you tried rebooting?

What file types are you playing?

Check and make sure all the required permissions are granted.

Yes, rebooted as part of the Sequoia 15.5 upgrade day before yesterday. Crashes were happening before and after. OS upgrade doesn't seem to have any impact pro/con. File types are typically ALAC for audio. However, I'm not able to get that far. For example, yesterday the app was hung (rainbow circle in the task bar). Did a force quit, opened app, clicked Audio in the tree. App instantly crashed/closed. Repeated two more times. Third attempt it opened and ran. Submitted a crash report w/ some notes on attempt #2 FWIW.

Accessibility and Input Monitoring both good to go. Can't recall if others should be enabled. But whatever it asks for during the initial installation I granted. Been using JRiver since v19 so I'm used to that process as Apples forced more of the security / perm approvals.

In that case you may need to post the crash dumps.

Hi,
I experienced the same thing lately. V34 crashed several times during normal usage of JRiver. Also Sequoa 15.5 and Mac Mini M1.

So V34 crashed several times but until you provide some evidence of a crash, i.e. a crash log, nobody will be able to work out what is causing them

Agree with ET here. Unless Bob can reproduce the crashes it gets hard without the crash dumps.

For good measure you might also enable logging in MC and then reproduce a crash and post the logs here (along with the crash dumps if possible).

Understood. Wanted to at least get the symptom posted, but clearly can't be debugged w/ out some hard data. I did end up doing a complete shut-down, power off, and reboot to see if that alleviated anything. Haven't run it much since original post due to recent travel but will circle back on status.

Thank you!

Replied earlier agreeing crash dumps are needed and helpful. However, one critical thing I should reinforce is that for many of these there are no crash dumps. The app *instantly* and completely died the moment I clicked in the tree view. No remnants were left to provide. No crash dumps that I'm aware of. No standard Apple "the app crashed report this to Apple" submit screen. It just disappeared from my screen, the DLNA server closed, and that was it.

Then switch on Logging in MC in the hope that the MC Logs will allow Bob, or anyone else, to discover caused MC to crash.

Hi,

It just happened again. I was updating tags in my Library when JRiver simply disappeared and I got the Apple report that I am sending to you now. It is not what you need but maybe it can help ...

I, too have had hangs and crashes.  Recently I had a Apple Mac update and when it rebooted, MC was in need of a forced quit.

I haven't been able to link the problem with anything.

Recently I had a Apple Mac update ...
It's likely that's the cause.

had similar problems on 2 systems:MacMini M1 and M4; while rebuilding thumbnails; once all procedures have ended everything is stable. Be patient and just restart as many times as you need.
