BUG: MC loses Replay Gain info for MPCs
« on: January 15, 2003, 11:25:45 am »

Wasn't really sure where to post this, as I'm still using MC 9.0.88.  I posted with the same issue a couple of months ago when I was still using MJ8.

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1037432933;start=5

One of the suggestions was to try MC9, but I've come across the same bug again.  Also, I haven't upgraded to the most current version of 9 since it's been mentioned that MPC plug-in support is broken in the newer versions.

Anyway, the gist of the matter is that I renamed the directory that contains my music files and now all of the Replay Gain info for 1500 MPCs is gone.  No problems with MP3, APE and Vorbis files, however.

The details:

In MC9, I went to My Computer and navigated to the folder where I keep my music files, D:\MediaLibrary.  I right-clicked on it and renamed it to D:\Music.  Since this operation apparently doesn't actually update the locations for all the music files, I had to go to File/Library/Update Library/Remove Files Which Do Not Exist, then had to re-import the files from the new location.  As I've mentioned, the RG info stuck fine for every format except MPC.

There isn't a current MC 9 MPC plugin which can do any sort of tag reading or writing.

Hopefully before long we'll have a solution.

That's funny, because my MC appears to read and write APE 1.0 tags just fine...except of course for the issue with Replay Gain.

I'm using MC9.0.88 (not the newer unicode version) with the MPC Input Plug-in 2.07 (from the plug-ins download page) set to APE 1.0 tags.

To encode MPCs, I've been ripping CDs to WAV using Plextools v1.18 and then using mppenc.exe command line encoder with the MPC Batch Encoder frontend to compress and add APE 1.0 tags.  As far as I can tell, those tags are being read by MC when I import the MPCs into the library and changes that I make to the tags within MC are visible in other programs, like Winamp.

I know that you guys are working on a newer version of MC and that the MPC plug-ins are going to be updated, but MJ/MCs Replay Gain support for MPC was kinda janky in MJ8 and continues to be in MC9.

I'm mostly posting this so that you guys are aware that it is a continuing problem.  Hopefully newer MC versions and updated plug-ins will fix it.  :)
