Sorry for this long post - but Media Server just does not work for me - and I really want it to work as I've just moved one of my PC's into my Lounge and want to use the Media Server Remotely.
Firstly, when I start Media Server it is using the wrong IP Address of my machine. You see I have two networks on my PC as below:
The network highlighted is actually something my TV Card creates and is not a 'real' network. My 'real' network is the one called 'Home Wired Lan' and it is this one which the media server should use. However, I don't see a way of telling Media Server which IP to bind onto (only which port).
If I 'disable' the TV Card network then it switches to use the correct Network - although I still get the following errors.
Once Media Server is running I check the port number as below - I'm using 80 as my port number:
So I then start the Media Server:
Now I'm confused. Why is it showing port 80 at the top of the screen - but port 5556 at the bottom of the screen ? Something - doesn't look right here ! I told it to use port 80.
At this point I'm not sure what I should be connecting to. But anyway from my remote PC I make a connection (in fact two as I try port 80 and then 5556). Both times I see the following on the Media Server:
And I can't connect.
Closely followed by the message:
By the way - do you actually get these bug reports from Microsoft - or is it a waste of time to 'send an error report' ??
So I have no idea what is wrong - but I just cannot get Media Server to work correctly.
Any Ideas as I really want this functionality, otherwise I'm using two copies of MC on two machines with one set of files (which I don't think is advised).
Thanks,
Mark
P.S. Is anyone else having problems with Media Server ? As Remy seems to be okay and I don't understand why I'm not (it doesn't work on two machines I have).
