Since I started using MC9.0.83 (I will get 84 after posting this) somehow some track titles are getting changed, for example the track below should just be named
Szabo
but instead it's name has been changed to
Abraxas Pool - Abraxas Pool - 06 - Szabo
which is the track filename ... I can't see a pattern on which tracks are affected, just a few in this album, a few in another, etc.

These tracks didn't get run through the conversion process at some time, did they?   The converter's got a problem renaming tracks right now (for me anyway).

No conversion, just Import then Analyze Audio

OK the one thing in common with all the track titles that got changed is that their names exist within preexisting Playlists.

One thing you might want to check.
This happened to me with a LOT of songs.

Check if they have id3v2 or id3v1 tags.
If they have only v1 tags then MJ isn't reading these and so it's making up the names by using the file names.
You can use another tagging program to copy the id3v1 tags into the id3v2 spaces.

Nila - Indeed if I compare the track's status (as copied in my first post in this thread) it does not have a proper ID3V1 Name ... But what is weird is that ONLY tracks that are referenced within Playlists have gotten their ID3V1 Name tags munged.

Did you try to use the Properties/Tools?

You can update the name from the properties or vice versa.

If you do this, try a few first.

JimH  - Yes I fixed the bad names using Properties > Rename Files From Properties trying just a few at first, then more and even more - it worked nicely

It looks like a bug and we'll chase it.  Thanks for isolating the problem.

After backing up the Media Library and then clearing it I just duplicated the problem, but it might depend on the the track storage method that I'm using which is
Directory: Artist\Album
and
Trackname: Album - Artist - Track# - Name

Steps to duplicate:

Create some Playlists
Delete the Media Library
Import Media

... the tracks that are in the Playlists then appear in the Media Library as Album - Artist - # - Name instead of just Name
