I'm a South Park geek. I have every episode, stored on my hard drive. One of the features that I'm thrilled about is MJ's TV recording. I couldn't care less about pausing, skipping commercials, and rewinding live TV. I want to record my favorite TV show (and occasionally my wife's shows too) and store it away.
I recorded a 3:37 320X240 avi using MJ compression. Resulting file was 94,688 kb. Double-clicking on it made MJ try to talk to the internet -- looking for a plugin, I think. Finally, MJ says "Media Jukebox cannot display visualizations for this file type. Visualizations are only available for internally supported file types. (mp3, ogg, wav, ape, etc.)"
Initial reaction to the new TV functions layout is WHOOHOO!!. I like the config sheet for the MJ video compression... very few options. I'm a firm believer in K.I.S.S. when it comes to video compression. I just want something that looks like my TV when I watched it later; let the resolution determine the quality.
I would like to officially request a "Record" button... right up next to the play/pause, stop, forward and back buttons. Perhaps right-clicking on it could bring up the recording options, no?
However, the filesize is far from being convenient for storage. It's fine if I want to tape a show and watch it the next night, but at this compression, I can't tape it to watch it next month (example: south park binge) which is what my brother the Star Trek geek has been doing with his VCR for years. *shudder*
Anyhow, just rambling on. Thanks for the new goodies!
