Audio CD Burning Problem
« on: December 28, 2002, 10:35:50 pm »

I am running version 8.0.393 (registered), although I have had this problem in every previous version since I've been using the program.  I am running Windows XP on a 6-month-old Dell with a 40X burner.  Every time I burn an audio CD (80 min.), the CD will burn, the program will say it is finished, and the drive will just keep the disc spinning.  However, the eject button will not do anything, and the program and Windows show an empty disc in the drive.  The only way to stop the drive from spinning is to restart my computer, and then the CD will play fine.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Thanks for any possible help.

do you have any other programs running in the Notify box (lower right corner)? (Nero, Easy CD Creator will do this sometimes).

And or Windows XP burning is enabled (you can turn this off)

I think If you have Auto Play enabled this may also happen. Depending on how it is configured maybe with MS Media Player.

I do know somtimes when two programs try to use the CD this will happen. i found this out when i created my own CD Player Program over a year ago.

I have Nero installed on my computer, but not running, and I do not use Easy CD Creator (used to, then I discovered Nero).  I do have the autoplay enabled for that drive, but I do not see how that can cause a problem during the burning process, unless it's attempting to read the CD during the burning.  Thanks, I will give that a try.

? OK, I tried it with autoplay disabled, and now, instead of having it finish and still spin, and just freezes at the "Finishing...." stage, and I have to cancel it, and then, it still spins till I restart the computer.  This never happens with Nero or the Windows burning.  Also, in general, is it ever gonna be where you don't have to disable autoplay in Windows XP?  That is somewhat of an inconvenience, and other burning programs do not require that.  Thanks again for any possible help.

the only two things i can think of are:

1. nero had a bug in one version that did not get along with MJ, and they fixed it in a newer release (not sure what version it was).

2. Nero does have a program that stays resident if it is running it may cause a problem (I for get the name) but i think it is called "InCd" and normaly stays in the lower right corner (where the chat programs, Zone Alarm etc... Stay).

Other than that I have no clue

InCD OR DirectCD (packet writers for RW's) shouldn't be a problem. I use both on different machines with no problems. It's likely to be Nero.

OK, I downloaded and installed the latest beta version of Media Center 9, and the burning works correctly.  Just out of curiosity, was a different engine used?  I do have it set to use the "Internal Engine".

Oh yeah...long filename support (data), DSP effects (audio), and 90+ min CD support are a few differences I know of in v9. It should use the internal engine by default (AFAIK...still run v8, will upgrade soon I expect).

OK, final story.  I completely re-formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows and everything.  I DID NOT install Nero, rather I went for Easy CD Creator.  And, running Media Jukebox v8.0.393, I have my original problem, where the CD finishes, but continues to spin and no CD is recognized in the drive until I restart the computer (also the only way to eject the CD).  Once again, any and all help will be appreciated.

PS- The CD does play correctly once I am able to eject it.

Correction...InCD is a problem. Is not nearly as transparent as DirectCD is. Will not let MJ (for instance), play a audio CD out of my Yamaha RW drive. Would not packet write a CD consistently either. Going back to DCD. Problem there is my version DCD defaults to the Mt. Ranier PW format versus the standard format (aka UDF). Can't change it. Irritating to the max.

edit > is anyone aware of a command line packet writer/UDF formatter that DOESN'T need to be installed into the system like DCD/InCD do?

I've got the latest from the 'net. You would think that there would be an option to temporarily disable the driver since it interferes with all other programs that can use the drive. I'll have to contact Ahead (Nero/InCD).
