I like MediaCenter so much that I want to use it as my one stop shop for all the music and audio entertainment my computer can deliver. The one area that is sorely lacking in such a quality program is the "Web Media" section.

If the following things could be added to the "Web Media" section, MC could be the only audio player we would need!

1. All listed stations should *just work*. Users should be able to remove or flag for removal those that don't (maybe limit this to registered users?).
2. Adding new stations to the list should be instantaneous (registered users?)
3. Improve the search functionality. Even categorize it something like Genre/Speed/Locale/Live or Recorded/Format (.asx, .rm, etc.)
4. Improve the interface (adding a station to your station playlist should not lose your previous search)
5. Integrate functionality of other "cast" sites (LaunchCast, ShoutCast, etc.)

Feel free to add other ideas or suggestions! I hope this post can serve as a mini-board for all those that would like to see this most needed portion of MediaCenter blossom.

I like the idea of having user feedback... for making sure that stations work and for new stations. It would also be cool to have some rating system for the stations. Again, I agree, for registered users.

But there have to be a lot of other people that use Web Media frequently. I love using it as a forum of learning new musics and cultures.

Boraden your mind. Endorse web media. This portion of the already great MediaCenter will never grow without interest.

But if that is the best solution, webmedia should not be part of mc. Because as it is now, both ui and how it works differs too much from the rest of mc to make a coherent whole media center. And as pocket mentions, it is not sufficiently updated.

Additions to Pockets list:
updated ui
right click functionality (is probably quite hard in the current setup)
it should be possible to arrange media after choosing them (moving them up or down the list)
featured stations should be removed (it's not a complete list, so it confuses more than it informs, and I want to be able to get to my stations first!)

I have tried raising the webmedia question on this board before, but without many responses. I do not know if webmedia is that used a feature in mc. But it could be...

Things have gotten a bit better since then - you can now add a streamed URL to the Media Library (see the thread http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=16088;start=msg109484#msg109484.
I think this would solve most of the concerns raised in this thread.

But there's still no way to add non-streamed media. You can "almost" do it (see the threads http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=12620;start=msg82472#msg82472 and http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=12516;start=msg81462#msg81462 for details) - close, but no cigar.

I guess your point is that there should be a way to import the streaming media into your library more easily. A recent post from Matt in the thread http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=10075;start=msg60359#msg60359 gives me a bit of hope that this might be available in the next version.

Pocket, I would love to see the options and updated interface that you mention as well. It's a major feature that is very much lacking in comparison to other apps.

I really doubt you'll see any change before v10. I would like to see the master list stay on JRiver's servers, but decoupled from it from there on out. A useful function would be for dead links to be reported back to the server (this should be the limit of communication). When a certain amount of these come in over a certain time period, then they could be removed from the master list. It may do this now, since I couldn't find Axioms (it was in the list a few months ago, but had gone off-air).

The "Windows Media Audio" and "Real Video" formats don't work which make up a majority of the station listings. Do we need to wait until v10 for that to be fixed?

I just tried a few and they worked. Can you post a couple of specific links that don't work? Also provide the details on your system by copying the system info from MC Help and pasting it here.

Those stations may be off the air. The link may have changed. Try visiting their web site and playing it from there. Then save it by using a right click on the playing now item.

I tested three that I listed on their web sites. They all work. I'm confused by your "Then save it by using a right click on the playing now item. " statement - not sure how to do that.

If the "file" is not in your library, then you'll see Import Into Library when you right click on the item. You could also right click then Send To>Playlist.

I think he means that you can put the streaming URL into your Medial Library - you do not need to use "Web Media" module to access the URL. I find it much easier to use the Media Library (I have a group called "myWeb") - because then I can tag the media however I want. This lets me ogranize by my own tags.

This only works with streaming media (i.e. anything in the Web Media module will be OK), but I remain hopefull that it will someday soon work with *any* web media (JPGs, websites, etc.)

Well, how about this....is there a way to mooch off of Windows Media Player 9. Their Radio Station list seems to use a similar HTML/XML interface to MediaCenter's. Could I just substitute their list into MediaCenter somehow.

See, adding radio stations to my playlist isn't a practical option for me. I would like to be able to search and choose from the hundreds available.

Have any of you used Launch Cast? I love that service. It fills my home with music that you rate. If you have a subscription, listening is unlimited and other benefits are added.

Now, with such a great music service, it baffles me why such a great MediaCenter wouldn't want to support this in their web-media section.

I am trying to connect to a few Web Media sites and I am receiving the following message after connecting, buffering, etc.

Downloading missing codec...

I have waited several times but it seems to be non-responsive.

Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, my current workaround is to setup MC to handle PLS files. Then I use Shoutcast's web site. Adding stations to a playlist sort of works, but it's kind of wacky when the station name is replaced (in the listing) with the currently (or last) playing track (if available). This often makes finding a station in a "favorites" playlist difficult.

I can easily manage internet radio playlist entries by tagging the Artist and the Album fields to show the radio station's ID and relevant info. I then add coverart from the station's web site and tag the Genre as 'Internet Radio' so I can easily filter them from my other playlists and library views.

This has worked rather well for me thusfar.

No idea. Sorry. Well, I mean, I know what the message means, but I don't know why you should be getting it in particular.

The message means you're trying to play some sort of file for which you don't have the proper codec. "Codec" is short for "coder/decoder." It's a piece of software that will translate the file such that other programs (like MC) can interpret it and render it correctly. This happens most often for me with video files, as there seem to be a gagillion formats out there. Incidentally, when you have the proper codec installed, you won't really know, except that the file will just play. That is, the codec is actually loaded and run by programs such as MC.

Cranberry Sauce Recipe bump for LisaRCT:

8 cups fresh cranberries
4 cups sugar
2/3 cup of brandy

Wash berries, pick out bad ones, and place in an oven safe dish. Add sugar. Bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes until all berries have burst. Remove from oven. While hot, add brandy. It's delish!

I think you misunderstood. No where did I mention I was stopping. I'm just polling for suggestions on how to continue this campaign.

I've considered:
1) Creating a new topic (or a few) everyday
2) Spamming other members for support (though I think this is against the rules
3) Threatening self-inflicted injury (though I'm allergic to pain)
