no Build yesterday...
« on: November 21, 2003, 04:39:49 am »

...so i installed the MediaEngine (www.mediaengine.org) on my HTPC, just for making new experiences.
The software uses the same file-structure as my MC but built another Access-based Database in it's (it'swith apostrophe)
own directory. So no risk...
They have a Version 2, and i must say, I like the user interface.

This would be a good Hairstyle for me.

Very clear, fast and easy to understand. Easy to handle with a remote or a touch-screen.
I just mean the User-Interface in comparison to Hairstyle, myHTPC, Netremote etc.
Please, i like MC, but i read something about a new Hairstyle in 10.x....

My wife likes the interface too, she just tipped on the screen and found her favorit songs. She said MC is something for cracks. ;)

Sorry...  the apostrophe is wrong...  or did you do that on purpose?   ;)

Thanks, Uwe, for the link...  I'm going to give it a try.  I've been trying to wait patiently for the new version of myHTPC (H2), but I'm starting to lose hope.  This looks like it may be an excellent solution to my Hairstyle woes.

Maybe but this is just yet another program I've heard mentioned in addition to NetRemote, myHTPC, myHTPC2 Music Lobby etc.  I just don't have the time and possibly don't even have the expertise either to be able to check out all this stuff.  To be honest I shouldn't have to as Media Centre is supposed to be the one that does it all.  It's such a shame (and a surprise) that such a powerful program fails to hit the mark in this important category.  I really hope that the Hairstyle overhaul happens soon.

No disagreement from me...  but remember that the "Hairstyle overhaul" has already happened.  JRiver has plenty of feedback, but for some reason (I'm guessing this is low on their list of priority items and they're busy elswhere) they haven't appeared to be willing to do more.

Being disappointed isn't helping me solve the problem - so I have to invest my time elsewhere.

Scott,
It's not a question of "willing".  It is one of priorities.  You're just seeing part of the work we're doing right now.

We will work on it again.  I just can't say how soon.

Jim,  I know you will have a strategy and a plan to take MC forward and there must be many other priorities that we know nothing about.  I think we just need something to keep us interested in the meantime.  I don't want to go scouting around looking at other programs - hell... it took me 3 months of asking for MC's remote plugin to support ratings before I finally gave up and installed Girder.  For me, looking outside MC for this functionality was a last resort but I had to do it in the end.

Every night we see enhancements to MC 9.1 - not all bug fixes but some subtle new features that keeps all of us interested.  However, we don't see any improvements to hairstyle - it's like a forgotten part of MC.   It would be nice to see a few improvements here and there; not a major overhaul but just something to keep us interested whilst we wait for the next big release.

I understand....  "willing" was a poor choice of word.

The interface looks GREAT, but I cannot get it to play any audio . . .
it looks for some Winamp component and I cannot find anyplace to set soundcard preferences.
 . . .  can it be used as a MC 'front-end'??

@Lisa
You must have installed WMP9 from MS. You can download it there.
But I just mean the Human Interface of the MediaEngine. Play your music in MC !
 ;)
