And the reason I'm asking what you think is that, if you don't like, imagine how much hate mail we'll get if we send a "Here's something nice you can do for a friend" message to a few million people who have a casual interest in what we're doing with MJ.

Hi

and a link to receive a registration code for Media Jukebox 8.0

Well the kids and other people have seen what I have done with MC via TV.

Tv and dvd are no longer in 8.

I thought about this for a couple of the older boys, befor you posted this.

They are impress with with the other functions of MC besides Audio.

Thought about buying MC9 for them, but its a little unstable right now, they will be calling me and not you.

But Im easy, answer my DVD question, I might buy.

Personally, I think it's a great idea.... but.... at this point I'm wary of buying someone a copy of software that appears to be no longer in development (and that will have a license from after Dec. 4th.... so will likely need to be upgraded to a version 9 licence later on). To me, it seems similar to going to the store and buying a friend a copy of Office 2000 instead of Office XP... the software still works fine... but a newer, better version exists.

I can understand that MC/MJ 9 is not ready for full release yet (and that unfortunately won't be happening before the season of giving has passed us by), but it doesn't make sense to me, possibly because I don't have a lot of money myself, to give somebody something that they will have to (or if they like MJ, want to) dump more money into shortly after receiving it.

Maybe instead, the offer could be for a copy of MJ 8 with an MC/MJ 9 license. This would tempt me... as I would know that the person would be able to get a full, working copy of version 9 once released... without having to dig into their pockets for a licence upgrade.

Other than that, I think the idea is a good one... I mean, who better to promote MJ than its happy users?  :D

That's my 2 cents. Thanks for asking!

D.

Jim,

I think It's a good Idea. Don't know if I will use it soon but that's the way I would like to share my love of MJ with close friends and relatives.

I have questions about the license.

So far, purchases have only been possible by credit card use online.  One of the best reasons for buyers to NOT "share" their own *RRG license has been that it contains personal information about them that they would NOT want passed around the internet.  That information includes name, home address, phone number, and credit card information.

My question is, "Is that information in the gift license?"

If so, it would deter me from making a gift for the same reason I don't "share" my own license.

The offer could be for a copy of MJ 8 with an MC/MJ 9 license.

I concur.  I would buy at least one, but only if it included the option to use v8 or v9.

I'm sorry, but we're only doing V8 right now.  Just to make sure what the recipient gets is as solid as possible.  In theory we could do a lot of other things, but we're playing it safe.  Hope you understand.

I do understand. Unfortunately though, it means I won't be buying my friends/family MJ for Xmas. :(  I hope you understand.

Hmm... maybe I'll give them I.O.U.s redeemable in February... that might work.  ;)

Regarding personal details: Some of them are safe, some are not. Your credit card number will never be available to the recipient, even if he is a 3v1l haxor dudez. Your name always will be (future versions will show the registration info as "Registered to: John Gateley (gift of Jim Hillegass))" .

I would have wrote it like:

(gift from Jim Hillegass)

Or

Type License: Personal Use
Type License: Gift From Jim Hillegass
