OT - *.jpg reduction & compression software
« on: December 06, 2002, 02:35:41 am »

I have a considerable number of HUGE (both hard-copy physical & kb-wise) jpg files. Could someone please recommend a reasonably priced solution to reduce these to an e-mailable/web-pageable size?

Thanks guys.....

MC9 lookin' excessively well & good......but won't the name be confused with similar ones out of Seattle (the name only!!!!)?

Yeah, I suppose people may run into the Seattle MC when they look for ours.  I think it's a new product category.  And ours is named "JRiver Media Center".  Theirs is "Windows XP Media Center Edition".

I use Lview for image editing.  It does a nice job of resizing.  It's around $40 and there is a trial version.  It's Lview Pro 2002 on this page:

Hope you're doing well down there.  I had a look around the web site for your town on your profile and it looks like a really nice place.

If you use linux, The Gimp works well, and you can run it in batch mode too...

My picks:

For free - I will second the suggestion of IrfanView. Another to watch for the future is Slowview.

For advanced JPEG work, I like JPEG Wizard. Define levels of compression and color fidelity for different regions of an image... sweet.

For batch processing, conversion, etc, I'm partial to EyeBatch.
