Help with DVD Playback
« on: December 21, 2003, 06:46:05 am »

I would be very grateful for some help here!...

The DVD playback in MC9 doesn't seem to work for me.  I can play DVDs perfectly with PowerDVD, but both Windows Media Player and MC9 don't work.  I tried reinstalling, no luck.  I also uninstalled PowerDVD, then MC9 gave me the error that no codec was present.  I reinstalled, and it doesn't work again!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Mark.

Install the software that came with the DVD player.

Thanks - I tried this, but still a problem.  I actually used Ghost to revert to a time when I knew everything worked (2 months ago).  I did some tests, and DVD playback all okay.

I then installed the latest MC9 version (my Ghost restore had taken me back to 9.1.288 I think).  Immediately, I could no longer play DVDs in Windows Media player...

Unless I'm missing something, this points to some conflict introduced in later MC builds.  Trouble is, I have no idea how to isolate it.  I can't play DVDs in MC, nor WMP - PowerDVD is the only S/w that still works for me.

Any thoughts?

Try a search for PIO here.  Windows can silently change your hardware settings for CD drives when it detects errors.  Zrocker had this problem, I believe.  I'm not sure it's related or even applies to DVD drives, but give it a try.

If it were an MC thing, we'd probably be seeing a lot of it.

If it's any consolation, I've never had DVD playback working under MC (either complains about the video or crashes)...and I'm using PowerDVD 4.x and an ext Sony DRU500-DLX. Most that are successful with playback seem to be running WinDVD.

Xen and Mark

"Shot in the dark"

Disable hardware acceleration in Power DVD and see what happens.

I have a similar problem, I can't play DVDs and get the following message:

Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed.  Can't playback this DVD-Video disc.

The DVDs play fine with my ATI DVD software.

Griff,

Hardware acceleration was turned off. Just tried with 10.0.23. No change...MC reads the disk fine (sees all the chapters) but as soon as you hit Play, she crashes.
