What does "3 months" mean?
« on: November 27, 2002, 03:24:12 am »

Starting a new topic per JimH's request...

JimH> ...the offer won't last forever.  For at least three months after release, MJ 9 will work with an 8.0 license bought before December 1.

OK, that means that someone (like me) with an pre-12/1/02 MJ8 license can move to MJ9 by installing it within 3 months of the MJ9 official release, and then we will have an "MJ8 license that works with MJ9", and that license will work with MJ9 forever.  Right?

Or are you saying that the license will only work for 3 months?

Your statement seems to imply each equally, but they are very different things.

My understanding Scronch is that your MJ8 license will work with MC9 providing you upgrade to MC9 before 3 months have elapsed after the "full release" of MC9

If you do that your license to use MC9 will then last indefinitely.

May 1, 2003.

After that, upgrading from v8 to v9 may cost a little.

Scronch,
How about saying "thank you" once in a while?  It's FREE right now!

Cheez,

It's not like I'm trying to be difficult.  The policy changes over the last week have thoroughly confused a lot of people.  Your statement above says, "For at least three months after release, MJ 9 will work with an 8.0 license bought before December 1."  That does not say what will happen after the 3 months are up, and, in fact, the words "will work" imply that after 3 months, the free-upgrade license will stop working.  The question still hasn't been answered.

But, yes, thank you.  I think your free upgrade policies are good for customers, and good for JRiver.  I do sympathize with the poster who questioned jumping right from an 8.0 release to 9.0 (never an 8.1).  In other words, some may say that MJ9 should've been 8.1.  I realize that the new TV and DVD directions superseded that, and I think the extra functionality justifies a new primary release.  So thank you.

But I'm really angry that you never answered my other question:
Are you planning to sit with the Vikings to watch the playoffs?   :D

Following a search on Google!

What's a Viking?
To the Franks, they were Northmen or Danes (no matter if they were from Denmark or not). The English called them Danes and heathens. To the Irish, they were pagans. Eastern Europe called them the Rus. But the Norse term is the one that stuck: Vikings. The name probably came from the Norse word vik, meaning "bay" or "creek," or from the Vik area, the body of water now called Skagerrak, which sits between Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. In any case, it probably first referred only to the raiders (víkingr means pirate) and was later applied to Scandinavians as a whole between the time of the Lindesfarne raid (793) and the Battle of Hastings (1066).

Easy, Jim.

As I recall, the Vikings were notorious drunks (maybe that's why they hired Denny Green).  They even gave us the word "ale", from their "öl".

I put soccer on the telly whenever I'm having trouble sleeping.

I suppose now you'll say I don't understand the game.  Yawn.

It's nice to feel that people understand me!  But you forgot to mention that we killed nuns and raped monks as well! Before we slept with the horses and rode out on the women! ;D

Actually "ale" is a celtic word, if I remember correctly. The old norse drink is "mjöd" (actually it should be an o with a slash from top right to bottom left in Norway), we got the ale from the monks. There's even a norwegian beer called "Munkholm" which loosly traslated means "monk island", from an old monastary island close to Trondheim.

And that concludes the history lesson for today, children! Cana thread skate more off topic than this?  8)

No...the lesson isn't over quite yet!

Don't forget the hallucingenous mushrooms (flugsvamp) we had to eat to go berserk and slaughtering all those innocent people... and long travels through Russia and south to Turkey and beyond :) (still wondering how they were able to do that intoxicated with mjöd and flugsvamp)

:)

The latest recipient shows just how meaningless that "honor" has become.

Scronch,
I'll let that remark stand because it says more about its author than the subject.

After Viet Nam, Jimmy Carter was a breath of fresh air.

Yes, and "was" is certainly the correct tense.

A very, very nice man.  A very, very inept president.  'Nuf said.
