Analog playback - no continuous play
« on: December 01, 2002, 01:47:16 pm »

Hello all,

I have  MJ 8.0.388 Licensed on a Win98SE machine.

If I use ANALOG playback for a CD, the first track plays fine but the following track is not played. It seem to me that MJ does not "detect" the end of the track for analog.
Other players I use (Win media Player) do not have this problem for analog playback.

Digital playback does not have this problem; however, I have some good reasons for using analog (background music while doing other work: small processor usage and volume control independent of system sounds).

I have looked at other postsbut did not find a solution... is this some known bug?

PB

What sound card do you have?  And what CD drive?

It's been reported occasionally, but I'm having a tough time seeing how MJ could do this.

Sound Card: Aureal Vortex SQ2500 Superquad digital
CD Drives:
- CD-RW: Yamaha 3200EZ
- DVD: Toshiba M1202

MJ8 cannot play continuous analog from either of these drives.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I have discovered a further thing:

I use a program called "Sandra"  for general hardware/software info of this machine. Under MCI Devices, and under the device  "vcreaudio", it lists an error message:
"MMSYSTEM262 There is a problem with your media device. Make sure it is working correctly or contact the device manufacturer. "

A search for this error message produces the following result:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=132572

which seems to be the exact error of audio track ends not reported properly, except it is supposed to be for Windows95 and I have Windows98SE

So we have the following cases:

- this problem has no connection to  this MJ8 problem
- this problem is the CAUSE of this MJ8 problem
- this problem is CAUSED by MJ8

I should mention the following contradictory info:

1. Other players do not have this problem for analog playback.
2. Another sytem info utilitiy, called "AIDA" does NOT report the above MMSystem262 error for the same device

I do not receive any related error messages for this MMSystem262 thing, except when I look at it via Sandra.

Folks, I would really like this analog playback to work...
Thanks.

PB

Some further info..
The description of this "vcreaudio" device in the Aida program is "MCI driver for VISCA". If I go to the regular Win98SE control panel and look up this device under "Multimedia",  there is no error message. The  "Settings" button for this driver has a pull-down selection for my comm ports (??)  and a pull-down selection for each comm port as to the number of "VCR's' on the corresponding port.
I 'm afraid I have no idea what this is. Enlighten me...

I have since tested the simple cd player that comes with Win98SE (cdplayer.exe in the windows directory). It has no problem of playing tracks continuously from eitheir of Cd drives on the same system.

It seem to me that this problem is unique to MJ8?
