New User's Navigation Question
« on: January 25, 2004, 07:58:43 pm »

When I am working in Artist/Album/Genre view (adding songs to a playlist, for instance) and then go to Playing Now to access Artist Information from the All Music Guide,   I need a "back button" or another means of returning to the library at the location where I was before leaving to go to Artist Info.  If I click Audio on the tree I always seem to have to navigate back down to where I was from the top.

I know that I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but I have tried for a few days and seem to be at a dead end.

Help anyone?

Just like a web brower if have a more-than-three button mouse you can use the "back" button on your mouse, or if you don't, hit the "backspace" key until you're back to where you want to be.

Scott,

thanks,  but it doesn't really solve my problem.  Of course using the back button or the backspace works fine while in "browser mode" but when you get back to the first All Music Guide page.... that's it.  The only way I can go from there to the library is to use the tree.... and that's my problem.  Clicking on the Artist/Album/Genre.... ,or any other view,  takes me to the top of the stack.... as if I just had just opened MC.   I have about 14,000 tracks so it's inconvenient to have to navigate back down from the top.

Thanks for replying.

Backspace should work even after you finish AllMusic.  It should just keep backing up through where you've been.

Sorry Jim,

It doesn't work that way for me.  Hitting backspace after a point simply continues to reload the first All Music Guide page.

Any other ideas?

The way I see it working on my machine, is when you enter the Artist Info page, it re-directs you straight away. So, if you hit back, it takes you to the re-direct page and "refreshes" again. If you hit back in the small period of time that it's loading the re-direct page then it goes back to the library.

Scott.

At least it works that way for me :)

Mine doesn't work that way.  No matter how many times I hit back or backspace and no matter how I time my backspaces I can't get past that initial All Music Guide page.  I'm using MC 9.1.316.

I see.

I'm using 10.0.43... maybe something has changed since 9.1.316.
MC 10 really does need it's own beta forum, doesn't it?

Scott,

I figured it out.  I't seems to be a "click" timing issue on this build because if you don't time the "back" click correctly, it won't work.  Your posts made me go back and be more persistent.

thanks,
