CD-R drive goes AWOL after burning
« on: November 07, 2002, 02:57:00 am »

My CD-R drive just hangs and spins and won't open after burning. I can get around it by rebooting, but that's a bit of hassle... any ideas?

here's all the system info:

Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1694 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 392 MB, Free - 156 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Things 2 check:
1. Does your user account have Administrative rights?
2. Are you running latest Adaptec ASPI (v4.72)?
3. After confirming line 2, did you try switching between Internal and External in Settings>Options>CD Writer Settings (unchecking box forces use of External ASPI). Check your write speed as well. Try backing it down to 4x.
4. Try disabling BurnCD (may be called IMAPI) service in XP (there was a post on this recently). I'm not real clear on this since I use W2k.

Yes I have admin rights.  Yes I have the latest ASPI from the adaptec site, and with or without the internal APSI layer setting checked the CD still hangs.... the CD produced is fine, I just have to restart to get my hands on it!

ah for point 4, I haven't checked yet....

point 4 changed nothing, so I'm still having to restart each time I finish burning a CD... this not being loads of fun I was wondering if anyone had any other bright ideas?

Under Settings>Options>CD Writer...have you tried the Use Generic driver option? Is your drive supported? (on the CD Writer tab click on help and then click on the here under Generic Driver). What state is your "Eject after write" in?

Update MJ to B392

one of my hard drives went AWOL yesterday.

A Reboot would not fix it, only a complete shut down and wait a few mins and re-start fixed it.

You'd better back that baby up.
They never go AWOL unless eventual total catastrophic irritating unpleasant failure is looming.

A device error occurred. Error number is 1038

eject cd after write changes nothing when the generic driver is NOT checked

If you have a V8 license, you might try V9.  It has some improvements for burning.
