If I like artists (or CDs) "A", "B", and "C" I'll probably enjoy CD "D".
Are there any services out there that will give me that kind of feedback?
Sometimes when you purchase a CD on-line the site will tell you "People who bought this CD also bought this other CD". Sometimes this is a useful tip but I'm looking for something that takes more albums or artists as input before offering a recommendation.
Thanks.
MusicMatch Jukebox had that ability and it was eerily accurate - but it was based on MMJ users' music databases and usage stats being sent to MusicMatch, not analysis of the music itself. For instance, hile they're quite different in many respects, I found that "People who listen to Deep Purple also listen to Celtic Frost." Go figure. There's always that trade off between privacy of information and the benefits of information sharing.
Allmusicguide (which J River uses for artist info) has a section on similar artists when you look up a particular artist. It's based on style, influences, followers and connections, so the results are a little more understandable than MusicMatch's.
