Large fonts in MC skins
« on: February 22, 2004, 04:52:10 pm »

I'm posting this on the skins forum because it might be more appropriate...

A simple request to J River and all those talented individuals making skins - can you have a look at how they work with slightly larger fonts?

I run MC10 on a plasma TV which sits a bit far away from the sofa. I use the Windows DPI setting at 120%, and I change the Windows fonts to make them larger. I also change the MC fonts to 10 or 11 point.

In general, this works really well, except that in some skins the progress bar tends to be clipped, and the text in the Playing Now area (the central display above the progress bar) also is clipped.

The Z skin works fine, but Blue Steel and Opus MC show some clipping.

I hope this advances MC's path to world domination of large screen TVs everywhere!

I agree that MC needs some work in this area.

I made a modification to Opus MC. See thread for more details.

You rock! Thanks! I will post a screenshot later today.

I guess the issue is MC not allowing scaling of the "Playing Now" display?

That looks cool! What font/size is that?

DPI is set to 125% in Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/General.

In Display Properties/Appearance/Advanced changed all the fonts to Trebuchet MS bold and jacked up the sizes too.

Then Trebuchet MS bold 10 point in MC. (So it's equivalent to 12 point). I noticed that some fonts in MC are driven by the Windows setting and others are controlled from within the program.

I use Trebuchet bold throughout my system - check out the icon labels in the screenshot, compared to the taskbar labels.

I never thought of changing the DPI. I'm gonna have to try that. Maybe I'll be able to see what I'm doing then.

Thanks for the info.

Jacking up the DPI changes the size of windows widgets, like the close/minimize buttons, and the size of dialog boxes. However, it doesn't change the size of pixel based objects. Some fonts change and some don't. Overall, however, it's worked well for me.
