A friend of mine has an ATI A-I-W 9000 video card with TV tuner.

He has a new Sony CD burner.

He has a VCR hooked up to the ATI 9000.

He has a lot of instructional video VCR tapes (mostly mechanical engineering tapes on pumps).

As he spends two hours a day driving from work & back he thought he would like to utilize that time by listening to the information on his car CD player.

Sooo... how do we get the TV sound only onto a CD that will play in his car ?

I immediately thought of MC 10 to do the job but as I don't yet have a CD burner I'm not sure how to do this.

Hi Doc,

There would probably be some other ways, but I think one possibility is to use "Media Recorder" (Available under Tools -> Advanced Tools -> Record Sound) to record the sound of the Audio Card. Just set the Audio Card "record" control to "what you hear" and "Record Sound" to "Mixer". Set to record in the format you prefer (if it's only voice, mp3 low bitrate would work), and produce as many mp3 files as you want... one per Video or one per chapter. Then  burn them into CDs as you would normally do with a regular mp3... and it should work.

I'm wondering if he will be able to simple burn the CD directly from the audio source (the TV sound) without having to go through the extra step of first recording it to a file ?

In other words, do you always need a file in order to burn a CD or can it be done for any sound currently heard ?

Yes.  Record to wav or ape.  Then burn a CD.
