Jaysz - I am having the same problem.

Sparta - I am using 3.0.388

Graham - can you be more specific? I go to SETTINGS > OPTIONS (off top menu) and can find no CDDB switch off / YADB turn on option. What have I missed?

Thanks.

For New Users Of MJ CDDB Will Not Work Since They Did Not Register With CDDB Befor MJ Switched To YADB

Xen - thanks for the details. I went and checked and found that YADB was already set for CD Drives.

I am trying to check against a file on the hard drive (don't know if this makes a difference), and when I select file properties, the only option MJ gives me is to check against CDDB.

Sparta - I had previously registered for CDDB with MJ as well as another audio program a couple years ago.

All - Strangely enough, when I tried today again, it connected to CDDB no problem.... weird.

If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Thanks for the assistance along the way.

too bad that support of cddb search of single mp3s is not supported anymore. this was an unique function of mj - all other tools only retrieved whole cds - same thing with clients of FreeDB. unfortunately, yabb is NO ALTERNATIVE.

Further on the CBBD/YADB kick, I may have come across a bug.

I put a CD into the drive, and opened MJ. At the moment I'm using a 56K phone connection to the net, and was not plugged in.

MJ tried to access YADB, failed, and when I double clicked on the first track, crashed.

Is this a known bug? I haven't tried to repeat it yet, but will if no one else has come across this one.

Thanks.

Hi Duhva, it's the first I've heard about it, so reproducing it would help.

John - I was able to replicate the bug (once so far). Here's what I did:

1. Turned on PC, logged in, with PCI CD-ROM drive plugged in.
2. Inserted Audio CD into drive, closed it.
3. MJ automatically kicked open, popped up a window saying it was checking with YADB (I was not connected to Internet).
4. Told me it couldn't connect. I clicked OK.
5. It showed me the eight tracks on the album, twice.
6. I clicked on the CD icon (the CD in the drive) on the right hand menu.
7. MJ redisplayed only eight tracks (like it should).
8. I highlighted all tracks and clicked play icon.
9. It started to play track 1, but the YADB window popped open again, said it couldn't connect.
10. When I clicked OK, MJ crashed, giving me the "mediajukebox.exe blah, blah saving to error log" message.

Here are my system stats:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 27 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 196 MB, Free - 96 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 3 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4916.400
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.5436
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Please let me know if I can be of further help. I'll try to replicate again, but need to do some other stuff right now.

Has anyone been able to figure this one out yet? I am having the same problem. Let me explain: I am using the correct version 8.0.388 and when I've got a CD in the drive (Queens Of The Stone Age to be exact) and go to get the CD info I get the "Status: CDDB: Malformed command sent from server to client". Now, I have tried the YADB and get the same thing (to include the reference to CDDB) but when I go back to the options it still shows the YADB. Now, I have been able to go to the settings and set it to CDDB (even if it was already set to it) and go back out and actually get the info. However, once I get the info I can't do anything with it. It won't change the tag info or anything, it just shows up in the CD Info dialog box and none of the buttons work. I can switch tabs but thats it. Whats strange is when I exit that dialog box and try to get the CD info again I get the "Malformed" message. This doesn't always work either. So, needless to say, I'm stumped.

Hi Duhva,

Someone else has reported this as well, look for a fix soon.

Nightghaunt,

If I understand, changing your options from CDDB to YADB doesn't actually change anything, correct? This is not a known bug and isn't happening to anyone else. I'd suggest a reinstall to start with.

I reported this about 2 months ago, after a change a reboort of MJ is needed or mj still thinks it is looking for CDDB.

I have not tested MJ8 since i reported it since i changed To MJ9 after that.

Hi King,

The earlier versions had some bugs. I just tried 8.0.388 and it worked fine (my CDDB registration is still good though).

Well, I have tried all the suggestions and no luck. I reinstalled MJ8 and I still can't get it to use anything other than CDDB. Even if it says its set to use YADB it still uses CDDB. I tried restarting MJ8 after changing the setting to YADB and also the other way, setting it to CDDB and still nothing. It will only use CDDB. As I said before I can sometimes get it to connect to CDDB and show the CD info in the dialog box but thats as far as it goes. It will not modify the database with the collected info and none of the buttons in the info dialog box work except the different tabs.

Ideas?

Nightghaunt,  you connected to YADB at  11:18 and 11:23 to lookup a CD, and at 11:21 and 11:28 to add a CD to the database. So, at least 4 times you've connected to YADB instead of CDDB. You may have connected more often if your IP address changes. Can you post the steps  you go through to change from YADB to CDDB and vice versa  (what buttons you click). It's a long shot, but I don't have any other ideas at the moment.

Post your system info (help->system info) .

Ok, heres the system info:

Media Jukebox  8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 930 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 523 MB, Free - 293 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 5.50.4807.2300
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shlwapi.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3315.2902
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

And what I do when setting the YADB/CDDB is as follows:
while in MEGA-ME mode I select SETTINGS/OPTIONS then in the dialog box I go to DEVICE SETTINGS and then under  CD INFORMATION DATABASE I set it to either YADB or CDDB then I press OK. I have then tried just going to the AUDIO CD in the lefthand tree and selecting it and then I rightclick and select  CD DISK INFO at which point I see the CDDB logo in the upper left corner of my screen and then I get that message. I have also tried exiting MJ8 after closing the OPTIONS dialog window and the restarting MJ8 and trying the rest. I still get the CDDB logo in the upper left  of the screen and the message.

Is that enough info?

Before version 8, I had no problems connecting to CDBD, but after upgrading I have had only problems.

Neither YADB or CDDB can find the cd's that I try to rip, EVEN IF I TRY THOSE THAT WORKED ON THE GOD OLD VERSION.

I have even tried to go back to the old version again, but no luck with that either.

I have now (today) been really agressive, I clicked the 'CD disc info' 10 times (every time getting the 'malformed' message) until WHOA the 11 time I got through ( using CDDB ).

We have here a piece of software that obviously has build in FUZZY logic.

Could you please remove the FUZZ....

Jan, I answered you in a different thread.
Nightghaunt - now I understand better: the "CD Disc Info" option is CDDB only (it should be CDDB Disc Info). Use the "Update from ..." option instead.
