GETTING THE NEW VERSION DIDN'T DO ANY GOOD, AND I TRIED TO REMOVE THE 2 second pause and now it is greyed out.

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.399
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Unknown 248 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 260 MB, Free - 96 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 3 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106

Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.5436

the click still occurs before the 2sec pause. i am using an external CDRW burner w/a USB connection. this did not happen w/ the software that came with the burner.

This problem occurs only with audio CD's or on hard drive media files as well?

What do you have for MJ settings under Settings>Options>Playback? I have Between Tracks set here to Cross Fade (smooth) with a dur of 1 sec. Seeking => Smooth (normal), Stop => Fadeout (normal), Output => DirectSound, and the "Do not play ext..." box unchecked. Note that BT, Seeking, and Stop setting changes may have no effect with Audio CD's. Not sure what would cause grayed out duration.

I would do a fresh install...backup license/library...uninstall MJ...reboot...reinstall MJ...restore license/library.

I had a similar problem some years ago when I started to use MJ ... finally I found out that a windows system sound (in this case a short "click") was played every time a new track started. I can not remember which system sound it was, but maybe you can try to switch off some of them...

I know this sounds stupid, but it only happened on one of my computers with an older Creative Sound Blaster soundcard... the "click" wasn't played in full length but was somehow distorted so that I first wasn't able to recognize that it was the system "click".  ::)

thanks for the help, but

this didn't work either. i muted all the windows media noises and it still happened. i heard what you were talking about though and the click was close, but i don't think that's it. right now i am trying to get rid of the 2 second gap and that is greyed out. i went through the old posts from earlier in the year and apparently this is a known issue w/MJ8 that was supposedly fixed in MJ9. but since i had no idea there was a MJ9 when i paid for MJ8 last week, there is no way i'm going to pay for another upgrade.  right now i am going to try a few of the tricks the others suggested for that problem (including copying the NERO DLL file to the MJ8 directory) to get rid of that 2 sec gap.

(btw, this is just with the MP3 files i have on the HD. i have yet to burn a CD successfully with this program.... i will comment on that eventually)

i would suggest that if you all have MJ9 available and that is the best version, that Mj8 be scrubbed. i am a manager for customer service for my company and would cringe at the though of purposely having  outdated software available for end users that you basically have to pay 2 upgrades for to get a current version, when you could just as easily demo MJ9 and charge 1 upgrade for.

if my workaround don't work, i basically am going to just use this MJ8 program for the editing and media play and scrap the burner part. what a waste that would be... thanks for all your help.

I believe the problem you have is related to the Creative driver and not MJ.

Can you try a search on google for similar problems.  I know there is information available on it.

You might also try the Creative website.
