Media Center 10.0.101 beta available
« on: March 29, 2004, 04:06:53 pm »

This is in late beta.  It may still have problems.

Please reserve this thread for bugs.  If you're not sure whether it's a bug, or you need to ask a question, please start a new thread.

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter100101.exe

10.0.101 (3/29/04)

1. Fixed: Menus / mouse wheel wouldn't always work properly on multi-monitor systems where one monitor was above the other.
2. Fixed: MC would not show file association window during installation.
3. Fixed: Tab would not cycle focus between the tree and file list.
4. Fixed: In rare cases, playback / decoding engine could hang when failing to decode a file or when closing.
5. Fixed: Media Editor's 'Cancel' button for decoding wouldn't always work properly.
6. Fixed: View > List Style submenu renamed to View Settings.
7. Fixed: It was not possible to drag the volume slider to 0% in some cases.
8. Fixed: MC could wrongly determine the length of some VBR MP3's without a Xing header. (use Library Tools > Update Library (from tags) to correct)
9. Fixed: Search parser better handles values with forward slashes in them. (when typing, use // instead of / for a forward slash since / is the escape character)
10. Fixed: Some webviews would have their right-click menu disabled that didn't need to. ('Start' right-click is disabled by design)
11. Fixed: Search limit dialog had an invalid dialog title.
12. Fixed: Some image right-click choices would be enabled when no images were playing.
13. Fixed: "Save with DM..." IE menu item did not work.
14. Changed: TiVo can stream audio from files marked as WMV in Media Center. (must manually change data type to 'Audio' inside of MC first)
15. Fixed: Browser integration in Download Manager would not work in some cases.

PLEASE post bugs only here.  We're down to the final day(s) so we MUST focus on bugs.

Any other problems or comments should be put in separate threads.

Thanks.

1. On Playing Now DreamState screen, with TrackInfo, the YEAR is not displayed never ever, is it cos the year was changed to Date(Year)?

2. Sometimes when converting some mp3 files the Cover Art is lost (after the conversion), this happens only when the actual Cover Art only exists inside the mp3 file and not as an external file.

1. Fixed: Menus / mouse wheel wouldn't always work properly on multi-monitor systems where one monitor was above the other.

Works great now, thanks!

Cosmetic bugs...

The main app window doesn't repaint when the "saving tag changes" message box is up resulting in the app capturing anything that happens to come in front of it.

The right-click window for my iPod entry in the tree isn't skinned.

If you rename a library field, the new name show everywhere except in the view scheme "Create View Scheme" dropdown.  Still shows as the original name there.  When it actually adds to the list, the new name shows.

BUG:
I'm having MC open up with my playlists selected and auto expanded.  Files are showing up in the display window that are not in any of my playlists.  This is a problem whenever i select the root playlist item on the tree.  In fact, when MC is in "audio mode" video and picture files will show up when selecting the root playlist item.

Really minor issue: When burning an audio CD, the "Writing:" text changes several seconds before the "File X" text catches up.  On my system at least.

another very minor formatting point:

when importing tracks a box appears at the end telling me the number of files imported. well it actually says "impor..." instead of import or similar.

Considering i use the standard font i dont think this should occur

1)   mc is able to import .vob files, but when it does so it categorises them as dvd files (in itself fine). unfortunately, however, it cannot 'find' the files once its imported them (ie. they have the little red x on them). If i double click then they work fine, however if i update my library then they are deleted each time. very frustrating

2)  I've often found that when playing .vob files mc resets the video file during the first 30 seconds or so of the file (usu when the production house info is playing). This is usually triggered when i move the mouse into the video screen or click the mouse on the screen. Strangely this doesnt seem to continue once the main part of the DVD is actually playing, only the intro sections..

1   On data CD's it isn't possible to recursively view the contents any more.  This means if you arrange the CD's in album folders they are a nightmare to catalogue or play- as each individual folder has to be clicked to see the contents.

If you don't click the sub-folders the mp3's don't even get added to the MC database.  I've been patiently waiting 2 months for a fix to this so I can add my mp3 CD's to MC.  It used to work in 9.1.  Please fix this.

2   Converting files with image inside tag. Converted file does not have image inside tag [even though MC reports that it does].

Media Center is not remembering my column widths when i save the current view settings - I tried all three settings.

Media Center always enables shell integration after setup, even if has been disabled previously.

Media Center should save the state of the action window(s) when closing the program, please :)

Thank you, Garth

Left treeview keeps resizing (horizontally, ie it's width) as I move around MC and also between open and closing MC.
Media Center Registered 10.0.100 -- C:\Program Files\Media Center\
That's not a bug. Go to options>Tree View> and untick auto size tree.

Temp folder not being cleared
« Reply #12 on: March 30, 2004, 02:54:43 am »

If I cancel a running sync/conversion and do not restart it, files are left in the Temp folder and gradually clutter up the disk.  As the user is normally unaware of this, perhaps they should be cleared out automatically.

Also, in recent builds cancelling a sync is followed by possibly several windows of error messages (listing files which were queued but not processed).  Is this really necessary?

During installation, I had Media Server running. I watched the installer closely, and it failed to shut down the running Media Server. After install I was prompted to reboot, which I did. After logging back in to Windows, the Media Center installation finalization started. It failed and said it couldn't install the Media Server component, at which time I noticed that Media Server was already running in the system tray, as it is set to start when Windows does (presumably the old version).

I'm not sure when this behaviour started, I think it was with version 10.0.100.

At this point, I closed down Media Server, and re-ran the install. This time I was not prompted to reboot, and I started up Media Server (v 1.0.197) just fine.

1.) When burning data CDs and you have the option to give the disc a name, it doesn't take affect. The only way to get it to work is click the drive itself under the tree view, and then hit F2, and name it there.

2.) The mouse scroll wheel does not work in the tree view unless I'm hovering over the scroll bar in the tree view. This has been like this for several builds. Is it supposed to be this way and I missed the update?

Hi,

I am having a problem if I launch Media Center with a disc in my DVD-RW drive.  If there is a disc in, Media Center launches, and then before I can do anything, the computer has a hard freeze.  The mouse cursor will not move, and I have to power off to do anything.

If I launch without a disc in the DVD drive, it works fine.  I can then put a disc in later and it works fine.  The problem is only if the disc is in when I launch.

The DVDRW is a NEC 2500A

Please advise.

Thanks!!

The audio analysis window mysteriously has 2 minimize buttons.  The one on the left (normal location) does nothing, and the middle button is the one that actually minimizes.

The TV filter problem should be fixed next build anyway, so no need for a new thread.

Thanks guys.

JRSS still completely unstable.

if i set it to 4.0 as soon as i play a file it closes MC, and i have to revert to source number of channels before it will paly a file. [please note if anyone tries this make sure that playback on startup is disabled, otherwise you get locked into a vicious circle (open>play>crash>open>play>crash ...) thats hard to break

Some soundcard drivers go crazy when trying to open them with a format they don't support.  We do everything we can think of to catch this, but some drivers still cause problems.

Import Media Files window.
Manually typing or pasting something directly in the Search field doesn't work--it's ignored, and MC searches the (defaut?) c:\ drive. In other words, one must browse to the directory and cannot just type it in directly.

But I am pasting M:\Music which is a mapped directory to another computer. Perhaps that's the root of the problem.
