Burnign WAV library files to MP3 CDs?
« on: March 31, 2004, 05:23:01 am »

I am evalutating buying Media Center.  It really seems great.  The one question I have (that is probably a deal maker/breaker) is:

I archive my CDs as uncompressed WAV files, but wish to be able to burn MP3 discs for my car and MP4s when I dump my library to my iPod.  Can Media Center do this seamlessly or do I need to first manually create the compressed files from the archived WAVs?  I'd like to ask the same question regarding WMA Lossless files and SHN and FLAC files.  The program really seems great.  I hope that it can do these things without fuss as I need to do them all the time, and don't want to go through a manual compress each time as that would take a lot of extra time and effort.

MC can transfer to iPod and convert to mp3 in one step. There's no one step solution for AAC (mp4), although there are external utilities that can help out (search the forums for conversion to aac).
Currently CD burning requires compressing first, then burning. There's a strong likelihood that the next version will have one step burning to mp3/wma.

By the next version, do you mean version 10?  Also, should it also burn seamlessly from WMA Lossless to MP3 and/or WAV discs, or should I archive in WAV for now, and convert later to WMA?  Is there an easy way to convert a library made up of WAVs to a library made up of WMA Lossless files?  This program seems so great.  If I could just do those things, I'd be addicted to Media Center.

"next" means the one after the MC10 we are about to release.
