Trying to use a restore on a 2nd PC
« on: April 04, 2004, 04:41:35 pm »

I submitted my key for a restore and got back a message saying I had used one restore.

When trying to activate the restore, I got an error code 21.  What do I need to do?  The second PC is mine, so I'm not sharing a key.

Make sure you're running the same version on both PC's.  Try the latest if you have trouble.

I think there is an incorrect link on the "Restoring a License" page.  It says for further info to check the Purchase FAQ page. But, that link does not take you to the FAQ page. It takes you back to the Purchase Details page listing the prices.

edit: I see now, I needed to click on the link for the individual product. My mistake.

After upgrading to 10.100 at one residence (and I guess whatever upgrades the help screen pulled up), I am trying to use the restore to bring the copy of 9.1.316 up to 10.100 on the PC at my other home.  And since I got the key emailed, I assume that the license info checked out.  but when I tried to open it in my AOL download directory, I got the error code 21.  What is that anyway?

I use a portable hard disk for my library, and I just hook it up to whichever PC I'm at and make sure the drive letter is the same.  Thankfully, the MC9 on this machine restored my library from a file made by MC10. When I found that out, I almost didn't care about upgrading, but I can't stand not being consistent.

I'm too old for this!!!

Did you install 10 on the pc at your other home?
The license only works with an already installed version 10.

I installed 10 at the other place.   When I purachased version 9.1, and then came down here, used a restore and installed it successfully, I had no previous copy of MC on this PC.

You are saying that because 9.1 is on this pc, I can't upgrade to 10?  Should I remove it and try from scratch?

You can install 10 over 9.1,

when I tried to open it in my AOL download directory

Use IE and no download managers...
